This is a song about letting go of the past. As the chorus states “when you just can’t get far from yesterday, try not to get in your own way.” When you’re holding onto the past, try not to let it keep you from moving forward. This is something I struggled with as well. It’s also about moving on, finding yourself again, starting over, and trying not to lose yourself. Sometimes we wish things in our past were different, and it’s difficult to let go of that, but trying not to let that keep us from living our best lives now.
