Behind The Artworks: Hellgrimm - The Hunger (2021)

Hellgrimm's artwork explained by Erica Missey (Hellgrimm's artist/vocalist/drummer/occasional bassist) Hellgrimm is the name of the band and the name of character on each of our CD covers. She's a daughter of Hades and Persephone in Greek mythology (our own creation within the Greek mythological universe) and she is a gatekeeper of Elysium (resting place of those chosen by the gods, the righteous, and the heroic). She is also the handler of Cerberus, the three-headed hound of Hades. She uses a unique scimitar-like weapon.

Our music is reminiscent of 70s and 80s hard rock/metal, and I love the metal album covers inspired by (and sometimes created by) artists like Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo - I wanted to do my own take on this style. The debut album cover is our introduction to the band and the character. The second album, "Elysium," puts Hellgrimm in a little more context in her fiery realm, with loyal Cerberus in the background. This new album, "The Hunger," shows Hellgrimm resting on her throne after vanquishing some foes, and lusting for more battle and bloodshed.

When I'm not playing music, I'm an artist/illustrator. You can see samples of my work at ericatures.com.

The model for the character is Canadian singer/model/actress Kelly Abbass, whom we've known for many years. She has appeared in photos and music videos for Hellgrimm and our previous band, Monkeysoop. Learn more about Kelly and her work at kellyabbass.com.
