Interviews: Conspire Against
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Conspire Against from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
We got the name through editing every suggestion we came up with, say it, twist it, decide. Until conspire Against came along, we were at this for ages.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Dee: it's something new, I was tired of continuously having us labeled as just "metal core / hard core" when something as versatile and impacting as NuMetalCore comes, you wanna help get the movement going and do something different.
Reu: for the longest time ever I wanted a way to express my true self in the form of music.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Dee: Yes and no, I knew our old Drummer and Bassist, but not other members.
Reu: I literally met Dee in person through being a new member. The only guy I knew beforehand was Harley who was the band’s original guitarist.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Dee: right now it's Loathe, they mean alot personally, they've helped me and my word, the music is next level.
Reu: it evolves over time. I can narrow it down to 3: Korn, Oceans Ate Alaska and Brand of Sacrifice
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Dee: anything from films to games, I have one lyric for our upcoming material that was from one of my favorite horror games, heck - even our first breakdown line was from Family guy.
Reu: I would make up a playlist of some modern Metalcore/Deathcore songs so that first I can develop a similar modern sound but also adapt on certain riffs that I really like the sound of.
6. Where was your last gig?
Reu: yeah we’re yet to do one of those as COAG. But personally, I played a uni gig back in April in Southampton.
Dee: We haven't played as Conspire, the last time I played a gig was 2016, in college.
7. Where would you like to act?
Dee: Joiners in Southampton, it's My favourite venue and it's generally an amazing place to hang out and see bands.
Reu: there are so many venues I’d pick, Joiners, 1865, Brook, Engine Rooms, Guildhall. There’s potential there.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Dee: Jake Noakes Ex Oceans Ate Alaska, the guy is An amazing vocalist and has inspired me vocally a lot.
Reu: Easily has to be Leo from Brand of Sacrifice. I often imagine myself and him writing some seriously mental stuff, he is one of the most technically proficient players of this age for sure.
9. Whom not?
Dee: personally I don't know, I don't really have anyone I'd not like to feature with, if we had it our way we'd tailor every song to our features styles.
Reu: I don’t actually have a “blacklist” for features honestly.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Dee: I would usually look down until the adrenaline hit, which is right as the music starts, once you feel the vibration in your bones, there's no going back from shyness.
Reu: for me there is always pre show nerves. Once I’m up there I’m as good as gold. What I would say is make sure to hydrate plenty, listen to soft music like Jazz (metal will only cause the adrenaline to accelerate), and one I think is important is to just relax the body as well.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Collectively, it's a mix: we can go from bands like Enterprise Earth to bowling for soup. But there's a sweet spot of some nu metal and nu metal core, so Loathe, Lotus Eater, Korn, Our brothers and sisters in local bands like Hampshire and Dorset areas.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Dee: We don't really have many fans so if anything I'd probably have to say a free shirt, it's not weird but we also haven't been around that long in technicality.
Reu- I’ve not really been asked for weird things, I have only ever been recognised 2-3 times when I’m out so I’ve yet to receive one.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Dee: Love 'em. Next.
But no for real we've had a lot of people come and go, but those who've decided to stick around and those who even checked us are absolute beauty.
Reu: I strongly admire our canvass. It may not be big, however, the commitment and the dedication are there. Every time we drop something it’s just positives from them.
14. What do you think of our site?
You've got a pretty great set up, you've featured a couple bands we know like Beyond Extinction!
You're offering free services which if anything is an absolute legendary thing of you.
15. Something to add?
Dee: We've got some new stuff cooking, it's smoking hot and it sounds nasty. Get a glass of milk because it is going to get spicy.
Reu: We have a debut EP in the works which we are planning on recording this summer. All I’ll say is what you heard from Nemesis, is mild.
