Interviews: Red Calling
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band, Red Calling from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, was it planned or came out just like that?
Jessica Pons: It was planned. Red is symbolic of passion, love, and desire, it is a very emotionally intense color. I strongly believe we all have a calling or meaning to exist, whether you think of this as a spiritual calling or as a more pragmatic approach to living a life full of purpose. For us, music is both our passion and our calling.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Javier Pons: I grew up listening to hard rock and metal, my dad is a huge fan of Black Sabbath, he took me to Ozzfest 2001 when I was a kid. That concert blew my mind. Hard rock is very intense and flexible in that it can be fused with other genres easily, like electronic music, metal etc. We love heavy guitar riffs and we have to admit it's a catharsis as well, it helps us purging a lot of our emotional energy.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Jessica Pons: Yes, Javier (guitar) and Luis (bass) are siblings. I’m married to Javier, we were best friends before forming the band. Deven (drummer) joined our band later in 2019, we had a ton of friends in common.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Jessica Pons: My favorites are Deftones, Lacuna Coil, Spiritbox, Wage war
Javier’s favorites are Architects, Korn, Gojira, Rob Zombie
Deven’s loves Alter Bridge, Tremonti, and Sevendust
Luis favorites are Thrice, 10 Years, and Linkin Park
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Jessica Pons: It’s kinda hard to tell what inspires me because it can be anything. We tend to tap into our feelings, sometimes we write about our past personal experiences, random thoughts about life, death, love, relationships. Also, current world events or situations. I’ve written songs with all kinds of subjects: love, anger, anxiety, mass shootings, etc Usually, the lines come easy to me but then I might change a few words to make it sound better
6. Where was your last gig?
Javier Pons: Our last gig was in Summerfield, FL
After we played we had a car crash on our way home, 2 of our cars were totaled, we got some injuries but we’re glad we’re alive. We spent few weeks going to therapy then the pandemic hit.
7. Where would you like to perform?
Jessica Pons: Hammerstein Ballroom in New York is an awesome venue, we’d love to do a live video there.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Javier Pons: We’d love to collaborate musically with Jonathan Davis (Korn), Spiritbox, Deftones, and Die Antwoord (because they are so different and original)
9. Who not?
Javier Pons: Anybody but Nickelback lol
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Jessica Pons: Oh yes, I still kinda deal with that. This may sound funny but I like to jump cause it helps to warm up my entire body and it helps with anxiety. I also do vocal warm-ups before playing and that distracts my mind.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Javier Pons: Korn. Those dudes rock so hard and they still keep putting out great music
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Jessica Pons: My socks lol I was wearing a mini skirt, a pair of black Converse Chuck Taylor shoes, and these cute black socks with little red stars. So this guy came to me and asked “can I get your socks? I really want them” I said “yeah, sure” lol
13. What do you think of your fans?
Javier Pons: Hard rock/metal fans are the coolest and most honest fans out there. We’re super grateful for their support and we hope we can keep interchanging this amazing energy and the adrenaline rush that we get to experience with live music.
14. What do you think of our site?
Javier Pons: It’s an awesome site, thanks for giving local musicians a chance to promote their music
15. Anything you would like to add?
Jessica Pons: Thanks for having us, make sure you check our new single/video “Torture” and stay tuned for our next release! You can find merch and all social media links at www.redcallingmusic.com. Please stay strong and positive, have faith, and keep music alive. Thanks, guys!
