Interviews: Casket Robbery
We have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band Casket Robbery from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Cory: The previous vocalist and myself were throwing around band names and that’s the one that stuck. It felt right and fit the songs we were writing. It’s perfect.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Megan: I think for me, its been so much fun progressively getting heavier with my vocals. Theres something about being able to go on stage night after night and becoming this terrifying little creature making those noises.
C: It came about for me because I came from previous bands that were more melodic and I wanted to write something heavier initially. After writing some heavy riffs, the melodies started coming naturally again to me. Along with the groovy kind of riffing. It all just really fell into place naturally and wasn’t intentional by us. We sat down and wrote those initial ideas and the stuff just came out of us.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
C: Yes, we’ve all known each other in some capacity before joining the band together. Each member now has come into the band because we’ve either seen them live or have played or toured with their previous bands.
4. Each band member favourite band?
M: I'm not sure I have an absolute favorite anymore, I go through moods a lot with bands..but I love Oceans of Slumber, Cannibal Corpse, Enterprise Earth, Lamb of God, Cattle Decapitation, Behemoth, Jungle Rot…to name a few
C: Megadeth, Children of Bodom, Def Leppard are some of my bigger influences and favorites since I was a kid. I listen to a lot of stuff!
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
M: ALL THINGS HORROR! Movies, books, my own imagination, all of it.
C: Horror. I sit down and watch horror movies to get into an awesome creepy vibe for writing. It’s a really fun way to write and add a creepy sound to our music.
6. Where was your last gig?
M: In Madison, WI for a metal festival in early 2020…then Covid hit
C: Yea, we had been touring a lot and building up our hometown following really nicely after coming off a hometown show with Cannibal Corpse the year before. We were asked to headline the yearly metal fest, kind of stemming from all the work we had been putting in on the road.
7. Where would you like to act?
C: We’d love to hit Europe and Canada and have plans to get there in the near future!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
M: George Fisher or Courtney LaPlante
9. Whom not?
M: I've never really thought about that, haha. Um, id probably be open to doing one with most ppl as long as they’re not jerks!
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
M: Repetition! Really just getting out there night after night helps so much, getting into your own groove and gaining confidence. Also having a little calming ritual for yourself before you get on stage helps too….and….maybe a shot of whiskey.
C: A shot of whiskey will calm the nerves.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
M: Any touring band out there…its not easy…by any means, and the bands out there constantly on the road, killing it, making sacrifices constantly, its super inspiring
C: Our friends that are out there really working hard. I’m inspired by so many people.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
M: I think I had to kiss an envelope we sent with a merch order once, with lipstick on. Not super weird…I guess I’m lucky to not have anything super weird, haha.
C: I can’t think of the weirdest, but one of the coolest. Big shout out to Michale for this one. He asked me after a few shows he came to to jam this really awesome guitar he had with him. So we hung out at a few shows and I warmed up before the show with the guitar. Turns out a few months later he gifted me the guitar and I wound up using it to track our album and I’ll have it on tour this August. Really speechless about it still.
13. What do you think of your fans?
M: Our fans are everything to us…we wouldn’t get to do this, wouldn’t still be doing this if it weren’t for them. Being on the road has been so important for me because I love creating and cultivating the relationships we’ve made with our fans…they’re family, always.
14. What do you think of our site?
C: It’s great! I just took a look around the web page itself and love the sections of the website where you can discover bands by country and genres. Also really love the Spotify playlist. We appreciate outlets like you that take their time and really help people discover bands like us. Thank you!
15. Something to add?
M: Thank you so much for the interview! We have a new single coming out on August 13th. “The Hidden… The Hideous” is a song about those creatures in your house, that come out at night to haunt and torment you. All those fears that keep you up at night. We’ll also be on tour in August playing select dates with Jungle Rot and The Convalescence, Filth, and Blood of Angels.
