Interviews: REIGN OF Z

We have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band REIGN OF Z from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their  FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name of the band came from Berg (bass player) he was joking around one day in regards to the fact everyone loves Z’s dog named Reign…and obviously Zosia’s first initial is Z so he was saying in jest well why don’t we call it Reign of Z….and it stuck.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Zosia: Growing up as a musical theatre major I was always told to be put into a box. I was either too ethnic or not ethnic enough…my voice didn’t fit my body - whatever that meant… I always beat to my own drum and I felt rock and metal allowed that.

Berg: It’s the energy, everting from the bands to the supporters you meet along the way. It’s just a very genuine genre.

Blink: I love high gain amps and heavy guitar riffs.

Nick: I like playing anything, but heavy stuff is what I’m used to.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Zosia: I knew of Berg, blink and hey hey before we became a unit. Those three have been playing together for 20 years…I was the lucky one to absorb them or bully them into the project

Blink: Berg, Nick, and I have been gigging together 20 years/forever. I knew Z and her projects but never met her personally until the start of ROZ.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Zosia: Evanescence, Marilyn Manson (before the allegations), In This Moment, and Motionless in White.

Berg: Beartooth, Atreyu, Sevendust, Fire from the Gods.

Blink: Silverchair, Tool, Limp Bizkit. I can’t pick just one.

Nick: I gotta go with Insane Clown Posse

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Zosia: Life inspires me to write…I always say the songs I put out are my inner lost thoughts…you want to know how I tick, then just listen….and as far as who, Amy Lee was my biggest inspiration in high school. She has a classic voice in hard rock and when I heard bring me to life…I said to myself…..I can do that and she paved the way

Berg: we like to create…

Blink: Life events, daily feelings, moods.

Nick: I feed off of what Berg and Blink are playing.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at the Emerson in Indianapolis, Indiana with Marc Rizzo.

7. Where would you like to act?

Zosia: I actually did a lot of acting in independent films and some motion pictures…I wanted to be an actress but that path wasn’t panning out…if I was able to I’d ideally want Jared Leto’s career where I can tour and do acting…I’d want to be on The Walking Dead, sons of anarchy, any motion picture…just to be able to do it.

Berg: Sons of Anarchy…everyone thinks I’m a biker or maybe a Viking.

Blink: I don’t really want to act. Commercials would be fun or anything acting next to Johnny Depp or John Stamos.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Zosia: Ideal tour In This Moment, Evanescence and ROZ.

Berg: Beartooth, Asking Alexandria.

Blink: Tom Waits on an ROZ song would be super dope and weird.

Nick: Twiztid now that they’re doing more rock music.

9. Whom not?

Zosia: I’m pretty open to traveling with anyone…we just want them to be kind…that’s the thing that would put us off.

Nick: Anybody whose a dick.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Zosia: I get horrible anxiety before a show so I like to hide….I also wear contacts that causes me to see the audience blurred so that helps. That’s why I decided to create a character so I can be who I want to be for that 35 minutes. My advice find something that calms you and create something where you can channel all that energy.

Berg: I’ve never had stage fright…there’s nerves going into every show just make sure you rehearse inside and out and know the material and put on a good show.

Blink: I still suffer from stage fright. I just let the music and the moment take me. It also helps to love and trust the people on stage with you.

Nick: Still get it…but not like I used to. My tip is to be confident in what you’re playing and you’ll be fine.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Zosia: Evanescence, IPrevail, In This Moment, A Day to Remember.

Berg: I can’t narrow just one band… there are so many that inspire me at different times and so many genres…to pull from.

Blink: Tool has inspired me the most, from a guitar player standpoint.

Nick: Green Day and Blink 182

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Zosia: Someone offered to buy my IUD…..I still have no words for that.

Blink: Nothing weird here.

Nick: Nothing weird so far..but I’m open to it, to be asked to me from anyone from time to time.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Zosia: We literally have the best supporters…they’re extremely genuine, always ready to preorder stuff to help us, and a lot of them travel long distances to see us….you can’t put a price tag on that…

Berg: They’re Wonderful!

Blink: ROZ fans are of course the band's life’s blood. I think they come from everywhere and every walk of life.

Nick: ROZ fans are the shit!
