Interviews: A Somerset Parade
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Hardcore band A Somerset Parade from Australia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
The name A SOMERSET PARADE was formed from three distinct parts. SOMERSET was the name of a place that the band liked to hang out, however a quick Google search showed that ‘SOMERSET’ in itself had already been taken and more creativity was needed. PARADE was then added when one member was inspired by bands such as Mayday Parade, and the album, ‘The Black Parade’ by My Chemical Romance. Finally ‘A’ was added, inspired by A Day To Remember and the name A SOMERSET PARADE was complete, the bastard child of the heavy weights of the emo, pop-punk and metal-core genres.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
I think it just came naturally to us. With the initial make-up of the band, everyone’s collective influences were very pop punk. Now after a couple of line-up changes we have naturally gravitated towards post-hardcore/metalcore/nu-metal. We love not knowing what will come next.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Some of us had played in other bands together and had grown up together; some of us were hand-picked for the band for their talent and personalities. Andrew and Dan actually auditioned together on the same night.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Dan – Motor Ace
Brad – Linkin Park
Mitch – Devin Townsend
Andrew - Korn
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Life experience, films, books, dreams – anything that creates a feeling or emotion that resonates.
6. Where was your last gig?
A mini festival called Si-Fest which was put on to raise money for a friend of ours who nearly passed away due to a major cardiac malfunction. We are happy to report the festival was a success and he is still with us.
7. Where would you like to act?
Wacken Open Air, Rock Am Ring, Rock Im Park
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
There are a few people we would like to collaborate with; Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park), Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), Jonathan Davis (Korn)
9. Whom not?
We’d have to take that on a case by case basis.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Sure we’ve all had stage fright at one time or another, now we huddle in a circle before every show and tell each other "we’re the best," it seems to work. Being well rehearsed and well prepared helps. Oh and alcohol, alcohol also helps haha.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Beartooth, A Day To Remember, Linkin Park, Sin Soto, Nine Inch Nails, Korn, Pantera, Rammstein
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Brad has been asked by fans for his hats and things which wasn’t that weird, but one guy wanted to swap pants with him and that seemed a bit strange.
Mitch was asked by a fan in the Ukraine if they could get into his guitar case and come back to Australia with him.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We love our fans. They are the reason we put so much work into our music. We make music because we love doing it, but when you can connect with someone through your music, that’s priceless.
14. What do you think of our site?
Your site is great, we appreciate all you do for musicians like ourselves.
15. Something to add?
Thank you for taking the time to interview us!
Kind Regards,
A Somerset Parade
