Interviews: Liver Killer
We have had the opportunity to interview the Thrash Metal band Liver Killer from Spain. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
It wasn't planned at all! The band was originally going to be called Rumbringer, but one day Voll (founder, vocals, and bass) was brainstorming names with a couple of friends and Liver Killer popped up. Needless to say, names that rhyme are top-tier names, so Voll immediately picked it.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Voll already played in a thrash metal band when he founded Liver Killer, so you could say it was because of force of habit. Over time we've realized how goofy thrash metal really is and started parodying the hell out of it, and slowly but surely we've also started to add bits and pieces of other genres that we enjoy, like punk, hard rock, power metal, funk, etc. We don't think the ''thrash metal'' label will apply to us anymore in the future, to be honest.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
3. Kinda. Voll knew Aleix (guitars, backing vocals) when the band was founded and Aleix even played guitar for a lil bit, but he left the project soon after. Voll continued as a one man band, recording a couple of demos and an LP, until he met Elies (drums) while playing with another local band, and decided to play together in Liver Killer. When it came to searching for a guitar player, Aleix was the first option, he accepted, and here we are!
4. Each band member favourite band?
Voll's favorite bands are Tankard, AC/DC, Motörhead, Steel Panther, Overkill, Primus, Dismember, Ghoul, Cut Up, Troldhaugen and basically anything with humorous lyrics. Aleix's main go to's are The Big Four, Judas Priest, Accept, Pantera, Necrophagist, Archspire, Royal Republic, Igorrr, Dead Kennedys, Slipknot, SOAD and of course, Dying Fetus Elies' would be, at least for today, Motörhead, Bad Religion, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Rush, Gojira, Native Construct and Trivium.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Lots of things! Personal experiences, what we see on the news, whatever we find funny, basically. But our greatest motivator would be pure boredom and too much free time.
6. Where was your last gig?
It was on the legendarily small venue in Barcelona, the Bar Ceferino. That was over a year and a half ago. Fuck Covid.
7. Where would you like to act?
Great question! Any local festival would be great, like Ripollet Rock, or Can Mercader. Also touring with a bigger band would be cool as hell too. We've always dreamed about playing in a big festival like Wacken or Hellfest or something like that though. We know that's far fetched but hey, who knows!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Oh man, where to even start?! Gerre or Andi from Tankard, Michael Starr, Les Claypool, Geddy Lee, Devin Townsend, Fabio Lione, and a loooong etc.
9. Whom not?
Anyone who takes themselves too seriously.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
As weird as it may seem, yeah, Voll (yes, the band's frontman, a.k.a the fat dude that wears Hawaiian shirts onstage) used to have a lil bit of stage fright when he started playing. Our advice is, just relax. Believe us, most people don't even notice when you make a mistake, and the ones who do, don't really give a fuck. Drink some brave juice (beer, we mean beer) if you have to, but don't over do it! Yes, we realize how ironic it is for the guys from a band called Liver Killer to tell you not to drink too much, but you don't wanna drunkenly fumble around the stage and look like an asshole.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Tankard. If it weren't for Tankard we would not exist at all. Over the years we've tried to do our own thing musically, but we still take a page from their book from time to time, if you know what I mean.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I don't know if this is strange for everyone but it is by our standards. Once, a fan approached Voll to congratulate him after a show. That's pretty rare already, so Voll gave her a sticker. Then she asked him to stick it in her cleavage, which, obviously, Voll did with the biggest smile ever. And that's pretty much the closest thing to getting laid because of the band any of us ever achieved.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are great, the whole 5 of them.
14. What do you think of our site?
We think it's pretty fucking neat! In a world full of elitist metal media, *cough* Encyclopaedia Metallum *cough* it's really a breath of fresh air to find a website where pretty much every genre is welcome. Truth be told, we're surprised to be approached, like, at all, but specially by a site that has a core focus, and not only have our music shared here (thanks again by the way) but also offering us this interview. You truly are awesome people, keep it up.
15. Something to add?
Thanks for having us! We hope we can do this again sometime, maybe when we drop our next album, which will be out pretty soon, *wink wink*. It's been a pleasure!
