Interviews: Normoria
We have had the opportunity to interview the Industrial Rock band Normoria from Sweden. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Why did you want to play this genre?
Angel: A few years after playing different genres I wasn't doing anything with music due to moving from country to country. So I wanted to start playing around with music just for fun and I thought that electronic music was the best way to do so if I was going to do it by myself. And out of that fun Normoria was born.
2. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Johan: No, I didn't, however, I knew our former backup singer who asked me if I knew anyone that played bass. I had played some guitar before so I thought I'd give the bass a shot and here we are.
Angel: Gustav and I have known each other for a while, and after I started getting more serious with the band with met Johan as he said. He was very willing to stick with us and we are very thankful to have him on board.
3. Each band member favourite band?
Gustav: Currently my favorite bands are The Prodigy and Ensiferum. But I tend to go through periods where I have different favorites.
Johan: I also have a lot of different periods with different current favorites. Some I often come back too though are Dark Tranquillity, Spark, Zeromancer, Thyrfing and Anti-Flag.
Angel: That's a hard question. I don't think I have a favorite band. I listen to many different genres but particularly to guitarist so it's hard to pick just one. I can mention a few of the many I like, for example, Queensrÿche, Talking Heads, The Cruxshadows, Kate Bush, Toto, Ensiferum, Depeche Mode, Chick Corea Elektric Band, and more.
4. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Angel: Inspiration for me comes from life and everyday things. Usually news and unjust things, like for example discriminations, bullying, and animal abuse. Not so much the happy subject that you usually hear in songs.
5. Where was your last gig?
Gustav: Depends on if you count the virtual ones during the pandemic or before that. Our last virtual event was the Dark Malta Festival. Our last show with a live audience was in Umeå Sweden at Uma Obscura.
6. Where would you like to act?
Gustav: I would love to play at WGT. It's such a large and fantastic festival with such amazing diversity.
Johan: I love festivals, so pretty much any festival. Amphi festival would be awesome!
Angel: I would love to do M'era Luna Festival and also the festivals the guys mentioned. A festival back home in the US would be awesome!
7. Whom would you like to feature with?
Johan: Zeromancer would be one for me, they were one of my earliest favorite bands.
Angel: Oh so many bands, right now the first ones that come to mind are London After midnight, The Cruxshadows, Aesthetic Perfection, Skinny Puppy...
8. Whom not?
Johan: No one in particular, but I would never want to be associated with anybody racist, anti-gay or something like that.
Angel: I feel the same way as Johan, we are a band that is very inclusive but we want nothing to do with those type of hate groups.
9. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Gustav: Of course, I think most people do, more or less. I think it is part of what makes live shows so exciting. My tip would be to make sure to be comfortable with the whole set which means plenty of practice. Then just try to breathe when the show starts and try to enjoy the show and focus on your playing/singing. Before you know it you are having a great time.
Angel: Focus on the music. Breathe often, and just try to visualize the audience naked that helps. Lol
10. What bands have inspired you the most?
Johan: Personally for me, it's probably Dark Tranquillity. They are one of the major reasons I wanted to be on a stage, their live shows have always been amazing and they look like they have such a great time playing live.
Angel: I don't have a particular band. I've been inspired by too many bands throughout my life. When I'm in music writing mode, I don't listen to music much and if I do the genres I listen to are not even close to Normoria's music genre.
11. What do you think of your fans?
Gustav: I love our fans, we wouldn't be who we are without them. It's such an amazing feeling when fans express how much they enjoy our music and performances.
Angel: Our fans are very loyal to us and they are super important to me. I enjoy talking to them every time I can and they know what we are about. We would be nothing without them, and we love them!
12. What do you think of our site?
Gustav: I really like the site, it's a really great way to find out about new bands and new releases, and the interviews give you a closer connection to the bands.
Angel: I personally think that it's a fantastic site. I like that it includes plenty of information about bands and where to buy their music.
