Interviews: DEADWING
We have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Rock band DEADWING from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
It’s inspired from the Porcupine Tree album with the same name. It took us a while to find a name to suit us and Deadwing just felt right.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We didn’t really consciously pick a genre to play, this is the type of music that comes out of the 4 of us playing together. Trying to find what genre the music fits in is something that we think about only after the music is already written.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We all went to the same uni in Manchester and that’s where we met, we didn’t know each other before that and we all came from different backgrounds.
4. Each band member’s favourite band?
It’s too hard to choose!
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Dragos: I think when it comes to the music itself it’s mainly the chemistry between us. We just get in a room and play, bouncing ideas off each other, trying stuff out.
Ellie: For me there’s no set way I write lyrics, sometimes I sit down with the intention of writing and other times I’ll be in the middle of something and will have to stop to quickly write something down.
6. Where was your last gig?
It was at Satan’s Hollow in Manchester, supporting Last Hyena and InTechnicolour. It was a blast!
7. Where would you like to play?
Anywhere and everywhere!
8. Who would you like to support?
We’d like to support bands that have had a big influence on us and any line-up that we fit into.
9. Who would you not?
We don’t think that there’s anyone that we wouldn’t like to support unless they aren’t very nice people!
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Of course, it’s normal to suffer from stage fright at first. The best tip we can give is to be well prepared and play on stage as much as possible! At the end of the day everyone is there to have a good time so there’s no reason to be afraid.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Tool, Elder, Black Sabbath and Dream Theatre to name a few.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
A lift home after a gig! (we gave them a lift)
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are the best fans ever! They understand our music and are extremely supportive.
14. What do you think of our site?
Love it. It’s awesome to have a site to find new music and learn about unsigned bands!
15. Something to add?
We’ve got a lot of exciting things planned for the future such as an EP and lots of gigs. We can’t wait for everyone to hear what we’ve been working on.
