Behind The Artworks: Varius - Concordance (2021)
The artwork for Concordance was created by Riaj Gragoth of Luciferium War Graphics. The concept of the Concordance EP was to include 4 diverse songs, each written by a different member of the band, and we wanted to represent that somehow with the artwork. Eventually, we decided on basing the image off the famous painting “The Last Supper” and use characters seated at the table to represent the songs. From left to right, the King character represents our song “Golden Crown”, and the warlock represents “Concordance of the Legionfall. The central character, the Red Messenger, has appeared on all our releases to date and represents a messenger delivering the apocalyptic omens that we sing about in several of our songs. The white-haired character was based on famous classical composers like Beethoven and Mozart, representing the song “Lament of Dissonance”, which is about a composer or creative person under pressure. Finally, the bloodied character with the shovel represents the brutal song “Gut Shoveler”.
It was a bit of a strange concept to imagine, but Gragoth did an amazing job to interpret our description of the image and characters. He nailed it, and we couldn’t be happier.
