Interviews: Amoth
We have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Heavy Metal band Amoth from Finland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
I was thinking for a cool one word name that wouldn’t necessarily mean anything but could be a name of some ancient god or mythological being and came up with Amoth.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
80’s metal has always been closest to my heart so it kind of went from that. But also I’m a trained musician so have played a lot of different genres so I take influences from all of those.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
I knew Anne and Pekka before forming the band, Oskari then joined later and Mikael shortly before we went to record the album.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Tomi: King Diamond, Cradle of Filth, Iron Maiden, Testament
Anne: Pain of Salvation, Queen
Oskari: Wintersun, Strapping Young Lad, Swallow the Sun, Gov’t Mule, Tool, Leevi and the Leavings, Pantera, Slayer…everything that sounds good in every music genre.
Pekka: 70’s and 80’s rock, heavy, movie soundtracks and progressive stuff. Symphonic black metal from the 90’s.
Mikael: TOTO and Symphony X. Very different artists, but both providing equally enjoyable music, awesome musicianship and endless source of inspiration!
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Good music and my influences, movies, some games and what goes on in my life and in the world.
6. Where was your last gig?
At Bar 15 Seinäjoki, Finland just before the covid outbreak in 2020.
7. Where would you like to act?
Would be awesome to play in legendary festivals like Wacken, Hellfest and Tuska!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Any band who’s close to our style. Of course, it would be a dream to play with the bands and guys that are our influences like King Diamond, Savatage, etc.
9. Whom not?
Probably some genre that’s completely different than ours.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I think everyone suffers from that from time to time. The best tip would be probably to know your songs and riffs and whatnot so well that you can play them correctly even under pressure.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
As a songwriter probably these: Iron Maiden, Metallica, Cradle Of Filth, King Diamond, Dream Theater.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
A hug in the middle of the gig while I was playing a solo.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We much appreciate every one of them! Come to see our shows in the future too! We have some great stuff planned out.
14. What do you think of our site?
Looks clear and modern. Good job!
15. Something to add?
Ignore the naysayers and follow your own path!
