Interviews: Imaginature

We have had the opportunity to interview the Power Metal/Symphonic Metal/ Progressive Metal band Imaginature from Poland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It was planned that our name should contain mixed opposite words. Besides that it came out spontaneously as the best option because Imaginature describes our style of composing songs - without writing and reading any notes. Our music is power/symphonic metal with some prog rock and folk touches to it.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I always dreamed of having a band with heavy guitar riffs and melodic keyboards. When I was younger I was more into the 70s hard rock music (Rainbow, Deep Purple), but over the years I found symphonic metal my favourite genre.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

I only knew Arek (whistle, pipes). The rest of the band joined later on, as we decided to create our own project.

4. Each band member’s favourite band?

Marcin (guitarist) - Therion

Krzysztof (drummer) - Metallica

Arek (whistle, pipes) - Nightwish

Leszek (keyboards) - Rush

Adam (bass) - Black Sabbath

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

For me, the most inspiring moments are those when melody appears totally unexpectedly in my head. I started writing "Through the Cellar Door" at a train station and decided to record the idea for intro, whistling on my mobile phone.

6. Where was your last gig?

In October 2019, we played in Olsztyn (Poland). Then we had some line-up issues and covid 19 came after 6 months. That stopped us for months, but right now we are releasing our debut album.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would like to act in bigger towns and cities in Poland, like Warsaw, Gdańsk, Cracow. We prefer clubs over open air festivals.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

This time we collaborated with guest vocalists while recording our first album. We are open to work again with all of them, because every single of made a great contribution.

9. Whom not?

We're open to collaborate with different musicians. They must fit in with our current compositions, though.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Personally, I faced such fear when I was a kid and performed Queen song (even if this was just a playback show at school, you must admit that playing Freddie Mercury is quite a big thing to do). My tip for such kids is to tell them that they don’t have to perform. This may work for adults as well - you have to be convinced that this is something you truly want and only then you can change the feeling of fear to positive adrenaline vibes. It feels quite the same, but it's up to you how you interprete such an emotion.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Deep Purple, Rainbow, Iron Maiden, Therion, Kreator, After Forever, Sirenia, Kiuas, Persuader, HDK, Charred Walls of the Damned, Seven Spires.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

An autograph, haha. I have lost a t-shirt after one of my shows in the past and nobody even asked for it. After all these years I stopped believing that I would ever find it.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They're smart people, most of them with great passion in their hearts. They're non-conformist people with open minds. We don't have to and don't even want to tell them how to live, what's right and wrong, etc.

14. What do you think of our site?

Your site is great! It met our expectations when it comes to finding great insight in musicians’ ideas and a first-class forum for artists to express themselves as regular human beings.

15. Something to add?

If you are curious about us, you can find Imaginature on Facebook, Spotify, Tidal, Bandcamp, Instagram, etc. Stay heavy, always look on the bright side of life.
