Interviews: Nova Spei

We have had the opportunity to interview the Groove Metal band Nova Spei from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

DanyS: When we searched for the name, we wondered why we were creating a band, what called us to this place. We all agreed on the fact that we all had hopes of making music again, the hope of making the stage again, the hope of having fun again. The word "hope" kept coming up. So "New Hope" came to mind. But it was too cliché. We looked for variations and we ended up with the Latin version of the words, so NOVA SPEI came.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

DanyS: It is quite simply what comes naturally to us without forcing anything. This is what drives us

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Not at all, I (DanyS) started Nova Spei in 2012. In 2014 I met Nicolas and DanyD. Then Stephane arrived in 2018. Julien has just joined us.

4. Each band member favourite band?

DanyS: Nine Inch Nails

DanyD: Killswitch Engage

Julien: Gojira

Nicolas: Dream Theater

Stephane: Ozzy Osbourne

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

DanyS: Strangely, apart from the need, it is to hear the drum, the beat, which inspires me to compose.

DanyD: I need to compose, a way to express my thoughts and thoughts

Julien: Gojira

Nicolas: The desire to explore and be original Stephane: express myself through my passion for music

6. Where was your last gig?

As a live band, it was a small place in St-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada. As the “internet formula” it was in our own local where we performed virtually for the ChidoCarnalFest.

7. Where would you like to act?

Locally, there is only one place, the HeavyMTL. But through the world, Wakenfest of Hellfest.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

DanyD: Howard Jones of Killswitch Engage, Light the Torch

Julien: Anonymus (one of the biggest band of Quebec, Canada)

Nicolas: Randy Blythe of Lamb of God

9. Whom not?

DanyS: None

DanyD: Marilyn Manson

Julien: Nickelback

Nicolas: Marilyn Manson

Stephane: I don’t like rap, so, any rapper

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

It never happened to any of us yet. It’s a stress that we love to call “a good stress”. What could be a good tip except that… remember that’s a party, you’re there to have fun. Leave all the rest behind and go!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

DanyS: Nine Inch Nails, Soulfly, Architects, Monuments

DanyD: Staind and Tremonti

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Come and eat sausages at home or go fishing.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Friendly and affectionate (yeah lol)

14. What do you think of our site?

We have just discovered you and it is crazy how it is a very interesting site which covers wide as well as all that is less known.
