Interviews: FOREIGNWOLF

We have had the opportunity to interview the  Alternative Rock band FOREIGNWOLF from Ireland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or come out just like that?

So the name ForeignWolf does actually have some meaning behind it. We were running on the whole Cliché Wolf Pack idea and we paired it with the concept that we had all come from our own separate projects to form this band, that is we were all “Foreign” to each other.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

All four of us were born in the 90’s so it was no surprise that we all have a similar taste in music. That sort of Grunge/Pop Punk/Alternative Rock era of music leant heavily towards what we set out to sound like. We just love that style of music and want to try and bring modern twist to it.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We didn’t all know each other, but we were familiar. Gerard and Dave knew each other from being in previous bands together. Likewise Mick and Jay had been in bands together and had known each other for almost 15 years at this point. Belfast is a small city with a large music scene, so we had all come in touch at one point or another through gigging.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Dave – Most definitely Alter Bridge

Gerard – Green Day all Day

Jay – Alexisonfire 100%

Mick – Zeppelin, that’s where it all started.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our songs come from past experiences we have all had in our lives at one point or another. We are not afraid to touch on topics such as Depression, Anxiety and Mental Health as well as Politics. Our New EP “Your Weapons, Your Words” really goes deep into how we all dealt with Mental Health and relationships ourselves, and how we overcame these issues in a positive light.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was at Stendhal Festival in Northern Ireland. It was the first live festival to go ahead after lockdown so we were extremely honoured to be able to play and grace the stage with some fantastic bands.

7. Where would you like to play?

We are currently in the middle of booking our tour for hopefully early 2022 across the UK. We want to try and hit up areas where we have always wanted to play such as Manchester, Glasgow, Camden and Brighton. But honestly just to be on tour again we are just excited to get playing everywhere again.

8. Who would you like to support?

I know we all would love the chance to one day tour with Alexisonfire. Their live show from Reading and Leeds is never off when we are at our rehearsal space. Such an amazing band, full of energy and raw power. Would be such an honour.

9. Who not?

Nickelback. It’s a 75/25 split on this. Dave absolutely loves them but the rest of us …..well Dave is lucky we like to keep him around.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Gerard has had his fair share of hiccups when playing live, from amps cutting off, to cables coming loose, but he has never let it stop him. His confidence to stand up and sing and play guitar really sparks the energy for the rest of us, and it helps us leave any stage fright at home. If we had any advice it would be, remember that as a band you are all in it together, so just enjoy every minute of it.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Again, we would have to go back to the 90’s bands such as Deftones, Alexisonfire, Linkin Park, Pearl Jam and Green Day. They all played such a huge influence in our lives growing up and they left their mark when it comes to the music we play today.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We have not been asked many weird things thankfully. A few fans have reached out and asked they could use our music on their Youtube Videos which was amazing. One was for a girl who decided to learn to Skateboard and wanted our music in the background as she said it motivated her which was truly a beautiful moment for us. But bring on the weirdo’s they will fit right in with us.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We have really loyal fans who we interact with every day. We could not believe that so many people would want to listen to our music and actually appreciate it. They are all so awesome and we feel so privileged for their ongoing support.

14. What do you think of our site?

The site is fantastic. We genuinely never realised how many Genres of Metal there actually are in the world until we came across your site. Like NintendoCore, we had to check that out. The fact that you have not only broken everything down into genre, but also country makes it so easy to find new bands in your own country and in a genre you love. For bands who are looking to tour with local acts of a similar genre, all you have to do is look and you will find what you need.

15. Something to add?

Thanks for all the support over the year, we really appreciate it, and go listen to our new EP “Your Weapons, Your Words” out now to stream and buy on all platforms.
