Interviews: The Moor
We have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal band The Moor from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or come out just like that?
The main intuition was to have something short and simple, so I was listening to one of my favorite songs from Opeth (The
Moor) and realized that there’s The Moor of Venice, the Tragedy of Othello, which is our hometown (well we are all based in the
countryside), and then The Moor is intended also as Moorland, in Italian it’s“brughiera, which is a common landscape on the
Prealps here in the northern regions.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Which genre? We actually don’t know why, I’ve been involved in several musical styles within the years,
but The Moor is simply a metal band, but we incorporate influences from other genres as well.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, we used to play together in another band called “Bleed In Vain” and had different projects with the
other guys.
4. Each band member favourite band?
I can reply for my part, don’t have “the one and only” among the others, but several ones depending on
life eras and periods. To mention some and also diverse by each other’s I can say David Bowie, Carcass,
Death, Faith No More, Kansas.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Sci-fi and dark crime movies and a lot of bands, from historical 70s progressive acts to non-metal artists,
or 80’s pop. On the heavy metal side we grew up with in the bay area thrash metal years and the death
metal one, with bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Testament of course and then Death, Atheist, Cynic on
the US part and then all the 90s Swedish death and melodeath explosion.
Except for music, when it turns out to be some mind-blowing obscure or psychological stuff, we are in.
6. Where was your last gig?
A local club near here, north east Italy
7. Where would you like to perform?
In a superb stage with great audio for the audience where they can have a great night, free entry and , free
beer, and free food.
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
Orietta Berti.
9. Whom not?
Give us Barabba.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Mh, I don’t think so, we started very young but I did when I played with another band, a tribute, in front
of thousands people for the first time. Just had a beer or two and let it go.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
The ones mentioned in the previous answers I think. Personally speaking I also have different kind of
inspirations, like the “chorus” band, the intro “band” and “great solo section” band... so I like to pick up
the inspiration from a musical salad I create in my mind.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
To sell him our underpants.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are the best people in the world and part of a superior entity.
