Interviews: Phobetor
We have had the opportunity to interview the Blackened Death Metal band Phobetor from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or come out just like that?
We wanted a name that reflected the imagery and lyrical themes we were hoping to use, and what
better than the god of nightmares.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We share a love of extreme metal, new and old, particularly death and black metal, but also other
sub-genres like doom and grindcore.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
The initial period of the band was quite fluid in terms of line-up changes, session players etc, but
following the release of ‘When Life Falls Silent’ in 2020, Ross White (guitar) and Dredgewood (bass)
joined the band, and Marc Dyos (drums) became a permanent band member having recorded drums
for the debut album and occasionally performing live.We all knew each other beforehand anyway,
which is why I knew these were to right people to work with and push the band forwards.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Debora – Behemoth
Ross – Carcass
Dredgewood - Obituary
Marc – Paradise Lost
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I find that writing lyrics allows me to exercise demons within my mind and give voice to issues I have
faced personally or things I see in the outside world that inspire me.
6. Where was your last gig?
Sadly covid put a stop to playing live up until recently, so our last show was actually February 2020
playing alongside Memoriam (ex-Bolt Thrower) and Krysthla at the Underworld in London. It was a
great show though!
7. Where would you like to act?
Wherever people want to see us, and it's financially viable, we’ll be there!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Definitely Behemoth
9. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
To fail to prepare is to prepare to fail. If everyone knows what they’re doing, and all the instruments
and equipment is checked then that usually just leaves the feeling of anticipation, waiting around for
the gig to start, but not stage fright as such no.
10. What bands have inspired you the most?
The longevity and quality of our favorite bands such as Behemoth and Paradise Lost are huge
inspirations for us. Obviously, the forefathers of extreme metal such as Napalm Death, Carcass,
Morbid Angel, Obituary, are big influences along with the newer bands in that style like Vallenfyre,
Bloodbath, Strigoi.
11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Nothing too strange (thankfully)
12. What do you think of your fans?
In a time when it is always more difficult for bands to survive and flourish, we are extremely grateful
for any support we receive from fans, magazines, webzines, youtube, radio shows, etc.
13. What do you think of our site?
Its websites such as yours which are keeping the music industry ‘breathing’ by supporting the more
underground bands.
