Interviews: TYMO
We have had the opportunity to interview the Thrash Metal band TYMO from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or come out just like that?
Tim Tymo: After my previous band split up, I was desperate to start a new project. I wrote eight songs by myself and named the project Tymo. Nick, Harlen, and Marc were interested in performing the songs with me, and shortly after, we started to write new material together. Before we knew it, we were a thrash metal band, and our new found sound took us to new heights. We have attempted to come up with a new name, but we couldn’t find anything to replace it. Once your name is out in the scene, it’s hard to start from square one with a new name. We are Tymo!
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Nick Schwartz: All four of us had a common love for thrash metal, we love the speed and aggression that comes with it! As soon as we started playing together, we immediately started covering Megadeth, Slayer, Lich King, Exodus, Death, etc. It definitely rubbed off on our original songs.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Tim Tymo: Yes, we attended the same high school! Sadly, we didn't know each other that well back then. I would always see Nick wearing awesome band t-shirts and Harlen was in my science class. I don’t recall seeing Marc around, but Nick, Harlen, and Marc knew each other very well. I wish that I could go back in time and start the band earlier.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Harlen Jacobs: Death
Marc Durie: Municipal Waste
Nick Schwartz: Slayer
Tim Tymo: Megadeth
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Nick Schwartz: Our inspiration can come from life experiences, movies, or TV shows. Our lyrical subjects are often brutal, with a comedic edge. Sometimes we come up with new riffs while jamming or warming up before practice.
6. Where was your last gig?
Harlen Jacobs: We recently performed at The Starlite Room in Edmonton, Alberta, opening for Striker! Our other show this year was at the Loud As Hell Festival in Drumheller, Alberta. We were happy to at least get two shows in during this pandemic.
7. Where would you like to act?
Marc Durie: We'd like to perform on every continent on the planet. Our main goal right now is to perform in Europe, which we hope to do on the tour for The Art Of A Maniac. Hopefully, COVID won’t ruin those plans!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Tim Tymo: We would really like to perform with our heroes, such as Megadeth, Municipal Waste, Lich King, and many more! We will see what the future holds!
9. Whom not?
Tim Tymo: We aren’t that picky; we are down to share the stage with anyone! If we had to choose something, it would have to be COVID-19! That we don’t want anything to do with!
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Nick Schwartz: No matter how many times we play, we still get the pre-show jitters! At this point, we are pretty confident in our abilities. The main stress comes from technical difficulties and equipment not working right.
Our main advice is to go up there and just do it! Mistakes are going to happen. We are all human. Some shows will be more successful than others, but go up there and give it your all every time! As for equipment failing, make sure you always have a backup plan and always plan for the worst case scenario.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Tim Tymo: We would have to choose Megadeth, Slayer, Municipal Waste, Lich King, Exodus, and Death. The list can be endless. Megadeth seems to be a band that we keep going back to! Covering their music has really inspired our original songs.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Tim Tymo: That’s an interesting question. We have been asked what our favourite colour is! The obvious answer is black, but Marc threw a curveball and said salmon was his favourite colour. We learn new things about each other every day.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Nick Schwartz: Our fans are amazing! It's an honour to share the experience with them. We hope that our music can help them through these tough times. Our fans help us do what we do, and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them!
14. What do you think of our site?
Tim Tymo: Your website is amazing! We are really grateful that you take the time to interview us, bands and feature us. Your website is very well organized and easy to navigate. There is a lot of material to check out there. It’s an honour to be interviewed by Breathing The Core. You have an amazing thing going!
15. Something to add?
