Interviews: Primalfrost
We have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Death Metal artist Primalfrost from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or come out just like that?
It just kind of came naturally, I guess. I also wanted to combine two words into one. I wanted to make sure that the name is distinct, hasn’t been used before, and can easily be found online of course.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I’ve loved extreme/melodic metal ever since I can remember. Whether it’s Dissection, Dimmu Borgir, or Ensiferum. I love when powerful melodicism can be seamlessly combined with heavy riffs, speed, and harsh vocals.
3. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
It really comes in waves honestly. My biggest influence when starting out was definitely Bathory/Quorthon, as he was a one-man band/multi-instrumentalist. Albums like Nordland/Twilight of the Gods really inspired me musically. Since then bands like Stormlord, Kalmah, Insomnium have certainly added to that influence. More recently Tuomas Saukkonen/Wolfheart who is also a one-man band/multi-instrumentalist, it’s really cool to see how popular the band has gotten in recent years and that was certainly a push for me to get Primalfrost going again.
4. Where was your last gig?
Monthey, Switzerland last month playing guitar for Belphegor, right before everything started to shut down yet again.
5. What bands have inspired you the most?
Bathory, Dissection, Wintersun, Wolfheart, etc. as mentioned above for sure. Stormlord from Italy and Shade Empire from Finland are also huge influences of mine and are incredibly underrated bands too.
6. Something to add?
Thank you for taking the time to help me promote the album and explain it for all of you on the site. A lot of work went into making this happen so I certainly very much so appreciate the support.
