Interviews: Raviner
We have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band Raviner from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or come out just like that?
Creating the band name was a bit of a quest. I played with various imagery from films, novels, and the Bible. But I kept coming back to the raven. “Raviner” is an antiquated French word associated with the bird, and it literally means “to ravage”, “to pillage”, or “to hollow out”. There’s something so transformative about that which I love.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I found my love for rock, alternative, and metal as a teen with bands like Flyleaf, Underoath, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Soundgarden, but as a classically-trained pianist I was surrounded by deep, cinematic music all the time. I think the sound emerged from those varied influences. The sound continues to evolve and mature as we grow as a band, as an entity.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Not exactly. Our band as it is now formed during the first year of the pandemic. We connected through mutual friends and social media. It was organic in a lot of ways.
4. Each band member favourite band?
I suppose this answer shifts often, but I’d say that Christian’s (drums) favorite is Deftones, Josh’s (guitar) is Loathe, and Jordan’s (bass) is a wild combination of metal bands, hardcore bands, and Nashville pop/country. My favorite band is Underoath. As a group we all love Spiritbox, Rage Against The Machine, Lacey Sturm (not to mention Flyleaf) as well.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Powerful stories - whether it be personal experiences, other’s experiences I might observe around me, current events, films, other works of art. Whatever is real and rings true.
6. Where was your last gig?
Asgard Brewery in Columbia, TN - our drummer’s hometown for a Halloween event.
7. Where would you like to act?
We’d absolutely love to hit up the UK, Germany, or Sweden.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Spiritbox or Lacey Sturm. Hands down!
9. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Sure! Performing is a vulnerable thing, which is why it’s so scary. The more you practice it and sculpt the process, and ultimately surrender to the beauty of the current moment with the audience, and with each other (or yourself!) as a band, the sharper it becomes.
10. What bands have inspired you the most?
Different aspects from different bands / artists we tend to draw from but in short, Deftones, Flyleaf, Spiritbox, and Underoath
11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I had a fan ask if I could autograph his forehead. It was at a show in the Cincinnati area. I distinctly remember using a gold permanent marker. Not sure how well that showed up on his skin.
12. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans and listeners are kind hearted and passionate. They connect deeply with our songs. But I also find there’s a sweetness and a lightness to everyone we get to meet on the road. We are grateful.
13. What do you think of our site?
The deep dives on bands from all around the world are really refreshing not to mention the various genres and styles featured.
