Interviews: AKB

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

It came from within the cave of our guitarist’s heart, as he was about to wolf down his 4th cheeseburger.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It makes up for all the phoney smiles we force to make a living, not to mention it’s when we’re the most honest with ourselves. As far as paying tribute to our influences goes, that’s always evolving. We don’t owe anything constant to a specific sound or metal sub-culture.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Salman (guitars) and Ahmed (vocals) did. They founded the band, and every member after that just fell into/ out of place with their own story. Josh (bass) and I (Ziad - drums) have a history as well. Our chemistry helps us develop our own aesthetic as a rhythm section. Apart from that, what we only really had in common was that we wanted to fuck shit up.

Josh - Godsmack

Ziad - Faith no More

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The stunted growth of collective existence. Pandering cunt-buckets on the radio. Not getting a Pepsi.

6. Where was your last gig?

An inflated dive bar in Dubai. IT was the first post-COVID metal gig, so we put on a show with a bunch of other local bands. It was a good time.

7. Where would you like to act?

Wherever we’re loved, but if we’re getting greedy, Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The ambience feels raw and honest, not to mention gorgeous.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Any of Mike Patton’s heavier projects.

9. Whom not?

Post Malone.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

It comes and goes for all of us. We like to think it means we still care. The only foolproof tips - suck it up, remember why you’re up there, and don’t get too fucked up.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Anything with groove and an attitude.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To join the band; as we were all getting off stage, mind you.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They’re funny as hell. All for different reasons. It’s quite inspiring to see we’ve got such extremes in the metal community digging our stuff.

Good stuff. You guys support music, and you do it right.
