Interviews: HYPERIA

This is a new interview with the Thrash Metal band HYPERIA from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

We went through a long process of finding a band name when Colin (Lead Guitarist) finally suggested one that seemed perfect. It was supposed to be a made-up word. A mix between Hyper & Hysteria. However, of course, there is nothing new under the sun. There were multiple meanings to the name. One of them being that in Greek Mythology, Hyperia was the daughter of the river god Inachus.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It started with Colin's love of Thrash but because Colin also takes influences from more melodic types of metal as well as classical music, we decided to go with the genre of “Melodic Thrash.” We all like different types of music which I think really shows in our music and creates a unique sound. I have to say though out of all of us, I think Dave (Rhythm Guitarist) is the most die-hard Thrash fan.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Colin and I met in another band which eventually led us to gettting married. Colin met Scott (our Bass Player) working at a juicing company called “Well Juicery.” Dave and I had known each other for years but for some reason, Colin hadn't really met him until just before the band started. Our previous Drummer, Jordan Maguire was an acquaintance of Dave. That being said, our New Album has a session Drummer whom we met while playing shows. His name is Gord Alexander of “Tessitura,” “Tides of Kharon, & previously “Immunize.”

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Marlee: Skeletonwitch

Colin: Havok

Scott: Venom

Dave: Iron Maiden Favourite Bands are constantly changing for some of us to be honest.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Honestly lyrically, a lot of personal experiences as well as conspiracy. Sometimes taking my personal experiences and making them more dramatic than they really are haha.

6. Where was your last gig?

When we opened for Soulfly and Toxic Holocaust at the Gateway in Calgary, Canada back in February of 2020.

7. Where would you like to act?

Everywhere possible haha. Right now Europe, the USA, and Brazil are on our minds.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Our favorite bands are listed above of course.

9. Whom not?

Honestly, we would be happy to share the stage with any metal band.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Every show gives everyone a little stage fright, 1 or 2 drinks definitely help. I find that the anxiety goes away almost instantly once we start playing. Some more tips would be avoiding thoughts of self-doubt and trying to replace them with positive thoughts. Focus on why you love to play music, to begin with, and have fun. Be prepared, practice makes perfect as they say.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Skeletonwitch, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Sinergy, Municipal Waste, Havok & Exmortus.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To use one of our songs for a sock puppet show. Not really a common thing haha

13. What do you think of your fans?

They kick some major ass. They are always energetic and ready to party. We have a lot of online support as well which is much appreciated.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's awesome, great to see a website supporting metal bands worldwide.

15. Something to add?

Our new album “Silhouettes of Horror” will be released on March 18, 2022. We also just released our new Music Video for “Operation Midnight” recently, check it out! Thanks to everyone who has supported us so far, we hope to come play for you all one day soon! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKo-GVzZ3o8
