Interviews: Klammer
This is a new interview with the Post-Punk band Klammer from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?
Steve: We liked the word ‘Clamour’ but also wanted something very European looking, so we changed the spelling.
Poss: It’s only after a few that someone in Germany told us it means clamp in German.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Steve: It wasn’t a conscious decision, it’s just what comes out. I’m not entirely sure what genre we are, as we have bits of rock, post-punk, goth and little bit of electronica in our songs. So I guess when it boils down to it we are just a rock band.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Steve: I’d mixed a song for Poss’s old band and after that finished he asked me if I wanted to write with him. Mike is from another band I produced and Bruno replied to an advert we posted online.
4. Each band member’s favourite band?
Poss: Bowie
Steve: Kraftwerk
Mike: The Menzingers
Bruno: Joy Division
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Steve: Whatever instrument I happen to be playing at the time. Sometimes the initial spark of a new song will come from me playing guitar, bass, keys or even from the drums first.
Poss: I think I'm a frustrated author. They say that "everyone has at least one novel in them" that they should write, so I think that writing the lyrics for our songs is my way of achieving that but in hundreds of paragraphs over several years!
6. Where was your last gig?
Steve: Huddersfield at The Parish and the next one is the album launch at infamous Brudenell Social Club in Leeds on 25th Feb.
7. Where would you like to play?
Poss: SXSW Festival
Steve: Brixton Academy, I’ve seen so many fantastic gigs there!
8. Who would you like to support?
Poss: Wire because they have been such an inspiration to me for so long
Steve: The Cure
9. Who not?
Steve: Nickelback
Poss: Coldplay
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Steve: I tend not to. I know I might make some little mistakes, so I don’t let it worry me. I know I could stand still and play without any faults, but playing a gig is also about performing. So I tend to worry about technical things before I hit the first chord. Once I hear everything’s working I’m fine.
Poss: I get scared just before stage time because I can never remember the words to the songs however much I try there are always parts missing! Thankfully it always works out just fine as soon as I hit the stage. I would say that as long as you have put the time and hard work in at rehearsals then there's no need to worry.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Steve: Pretty much everything I’ve ever listened to but the top ones would be:-
The Velvet Underground, The Stranglers, Joy Division, The Pixies, Nirvana, Kraftwerk, Prince, and Radiohead. Also, any band and artist that just does their own thing.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Poss: Our fans must be very polite or shy because they usually talk about the show or the songs!
Steve: Nothing weird as yet but there’s still time for someone to surprise us!
13. What do you think of your fans?
Poss: We love our fans! They make all the hard work of writing, rehearsing and recording plus the hard work of loading our equipment in and out and all the miles feel so worthwhile. It's also a lot of fun hearing them tell us which unlikely bands they think we sound like!
Steve: Everything, without them we are just a project
14. What do you think of our site?
Steve: I‘m new to it but it looks good and reads really well. It’s certainly one I’ll be regularly checking out in future.
15. Something to add?
Steve: You can find us at all the usual places on line (Apple, Spotify, Amazon, Deezer, YouTube, etc).
