Interviews: MESSER

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

MESSER means knife in German, but it's also my last name. However, when it came time to pick a name it was actually the late great Chester Bennington who helped us decide one evening over dinner in Dallas. Our original name was “$hit F@ced” but that only lasted one show lol. House of Blues wasn’t too keen on putting that on the marquee lol.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We all grew up with the Rock music of the ’90s and 2000s. Think the energy just vibes with us….. I mean Rock music has been responsible for an entire Revolution. I mean come on, lol we all know this city was built on Rock and Roll.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

I’d say we all knew of each other… But we didn’t know each other per se. I knew Maddox as a hairdresser and Kenny knew Maddox because Kenny was on a reality TV ( Vh1 Daisy Of Love) show with the singer of the band Maddox was in at the time.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Dereak - The Doors

Maddox - The Eagles

Jon - The Beatles

Kenn - The Motley Crue

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Well, we co-write all songs with our brother and producer Chad Gendason, But all of our songs are taken from our lives. We intentionally write songs that are meant to evoke emotions in the listener. We are very passionate about crafting music that cuts to the soul, hence the name MESSER. (Knife)

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was on 2/12/22 At Amplified live ( Formerly Gas Monkey live) It was with our good buds in Aranda and another and comer Averi Burk.

7. Whom would you like to feature with?

I think it would be cool to do a feature with Danny Worsnop or even Leigh Kakaty. But also Jerry Cantrell.

8. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

No, not really … if you have stage fright you are in the wrong business lol

9. What bands have inspired you the most?

I’d say bands like Toto, Chicago, Boston but also the Doors and The Beatles

10. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We had a couple ask us to marry them at a show once and we did. It's as totally awesome!

11. What do you think of your fans?

We love our fans! That is the reason we do this … Hearing their stories about how our music saved them or helped them is wants it's all about for us! We call them the MESSER Machine because they are what Moves us. We have a great Facebook Community page and it's super cool to watch Complete strangers become friends bonded t through Music.
