Interviews: He Was A God
This is a new interview with the Progressive Rock/Progressive Metal/Hard Rock artist He Was God from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?
The band’s name comes from a lyric in the song “upper decker” by Red Chord.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
When I was a kid, I was into hip hop: Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Ice T, etc. Then someone gave me the I’m The Man EP from Anthrax and that is what sold me! I’m grateful to have a healthy outlet for negative feelings whether it is performing live or writing lyrics.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
The other guys in the band all pretty much grew up together and have been playing music together since about age 10. I’m the new guy but I think we found our groove with one another pretty quickly.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Tony (Guitars, Keys, Backing Vocals) – Devin Townsend and Porcupine Tree
Kriz (Drums) – Nine Inch Nails
Benjamin (Lead Vocals & Lyrics) – Faith No More
Dan (Bass) – Smashing Pumpkins
Ray (Lead Guitar) - Bayside
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Loss, injustice, tragedy, hypocrisy…sometimes I see those things in the world around me. Other times, I find those things by looking inward.
6. Where was your last gig?
We just played The Cherry Street Station in Wallingford, CT with Sworn Enemy, Full Blown Chaos, and No Honor Among Thieves.
7. Where would you like to act?
We’re looking forward to hitting up some clubs in New York. It’s right in our back yard and we are itching to get down there.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
I’d love for us to work with Trey Spruance (Mr. Bungle, Secret Chiefs). I think watching him and Tony geek out about guitars, effects, keyboards, and engineering would be an absolute treat.
9. Who not?
I have no desire to collaborate with any of these right-wing nut jobs. Like these anti-Semitic black metal assholes? Or this Iced Earth guy who stormed the Capitol? Fuck. That.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Practice, practice, practice.
