Interviews: HELSOTT

This is a new interview with the Pagan Metal band HELSOTT from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

I was searching for a dark band name in Norse/Icelandic/Germanic tomes and found a name that is used in all 3. All meaning basically the same thing. Hels Journey or Fatal Illness. We said...that's perfect.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I have always been interested in mythologies and history. I heard bands like Einherjer, Moonsorrow, Finntroll, and Ensiferum and thought that is what I wanted to be doing. But my own style of course.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

The band was originally formed by myself and my 2 older brothers. So yeah we knew each other. The other members I met while working at Guitar Center.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

I can't speak for each band member but I'm pretty sure Iron Maiden would be up there for all of us. They are definitely my favorite band.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Other bands, life, history, mythologies, and the love for telling stories.

6. Where was your last gig?

Orange County California, as the guest headliner for the Wacken Metal Battle USA.

7. Where would you like to act?

Really looking forward to playing England for the first time in December at the HRH Viking Festival.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We have had the honor of having many awesome guests on our albums. Someone from Moonsorrow, Ensiferum, Einherjer, or Jonne from Korpiklaani would be awesome.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright?Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Some of us get a bit nervous sometimes. I don't. After a few minutes of the first song they seem to be fine. 

Alcohol or weed to relax you but not to the point where you can't play. Get out there and do it no matter how you feel.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Iron Maiden, Pantera, Therion, Blind Guardian, Dio, Amon Amarth...I can go on and on with this one.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Luckily I haven't really had any weird requests. Thankfully.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I love them.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's cool. I like how you cater to the underground bands that can use attention.
