Interviews: Huxley
This is a new interview with the Heavy Rock band Huxley from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?
We actually got lucky with our band name. Picking a band name is always a difficult process,
and our guitarist happened to live on Huxley Ct. We always really liked the name, and our
drummer at the time really liked the author Huxley that it just seemed to work.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We played in metalcore bands most of our lives and loved that style of music, but as we got a
little older we really wanted to get back to our rock and roll roots and make music that was
focussed more on the hooks, and choruses that everyone could sing to.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
The current state of the band has been a hodge podge of members we met along the way
Michael and I ( Doug ) have been in bands together for over 10 years while Matt, Bill, and Chris
have been playing in many projects and still are, but have found their place in Huxley. Matt and
Bill were in other bands and friends of Michael and me, and Chris was and still is our producer that
converted into a member.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Doug: Coheed and Cambria
Michael: Shinedown
Bill: Led Zeppelin
Matt: Microwave
Chris: Metallica
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
A lot of inspiration comes from our desire to write from our hearts and experience. Our goal in
Huxley was to make songs that people could sing along to. We want people to be able to
experience their own connections with each song. Our love of music and how it has helped us
through our lives become the biggest inspiration to hopefully return that to the world.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was at a cool spot called MilkBoy in Philadelphia. It is an intimate room that was
packed full of amazing people having fun for the first time in what feels like forever.
7. Where would you like to act?
One of our dream places to play is the BB&T Pavillion in Camden, where we will get that
opportunity to do on May 21st for the MMRBQ with Disturbed. The chance to play on the same
stage as where you saw your first concert is a dream come true.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Getting a chance to do a feature with anyone in our genre ie Shinedown, Beartooth, Breaking
Benjamin would be insane. Personally, for me (Doug) Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria
would be a huge honor. We have had the great opportunity to work with and cowrite with
producers such as Kane Churko ( producer of 5 Finger Death Punch and more) for our song
“Hate Me” and Ricky Armellino (Guitarist of Ice Nine Kills) for our unreleased song “Flesh and
Bone” which will be released in May, and that has been a great experience to work with such
talented producers.
9. Who not?
I guess Kanye…. that guy has lost it. Was once a huge talent, really a shame what has
happened.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat
that?
I don’t believe so, we all have been on stage a ton. I know when I started doing shows one of
my mentors always said that the stage was just another opportunity to show people what you
have worked on, slaved over, and loved. The only thing that you should be worried about on
stage is not being you. As long as you are your authentic self there is nothing to fear.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
This is a tricky one because I believe there are many stages of inspiration. There are the bands
that you grow up with, the bands you discovered on your own, and the bands you shared with
friends and family. There is never just one source of inspiration. Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin,
and Beartooth have always been our top 3 bands that Huxley looks towards as inspiration.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
There was one kid that would not take no for an answer, we needed to sign his forehead.
13. What do you think of your fans?
I know it is cliche, but our fans really are the best. We can not thank our fans enough for
always pushing us and helping us grow. We really try to make sure our fans know they are more
than fans they are our Huxley family. We are always with them since they have always been
with us.
14. What do you think of our site?
Your website is an awesome hub for people to discover great new music! I actually got lost for
a few hours just scrolling through the other articles, as well as all the different options you have
on the site! Well done, definitely bookmarked!
