Interviews: The VillainZ

This is a new interview with the Garage Rock band The VillainZ from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name; did you plan it or came out just like that?

Nic: We didn’t choose that name; the name did choose us! It was like « Hey, what kind of people would fit me? » And there he picked us. Just like that.

Jess: VZ is for “Vieux Zgueg” which means “old dick” in slang from Marseille.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Nic: VZ gathers everything we love in music, but most of all, I guess we wanted to play in pubs and see people throwing beer in the air while dancing in the rhythm of our songs.

Jess: We just grew up with rock music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Nic: I and Jess used to play Lego together before launching that project. Slotting together pretty well. So yeah, VZ is an extension of our couple. The reflection of ourselves: two mean and naughty freaks setting mayhem in the bars.

Jess: Dildo Lego, please!

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Nic: The VillainZ. What else?

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Nic: When it comes to music, I just pick the guitar and pretend to be angry. But it happens we just say « Let’s do a song in this or that style… ».

Jess: Our parties, our lives, and serial killers

6. Where was your last gig?

Nic: Real last gig was before the covid shit. But in the meanwhile we made some live vids, you can watch on our channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/TheVillainz/videos Jess was pregnant by the time, and we covered our own songs in a smoother way.

7. Where would you like to act?

Nic: Anywhere people are crazy. Sometimes a small pub with a mad audience is better than a huge stage.

Jess: In Australia cause I love their animals!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Nic: Red Fang. I’m just keen on how they behave in their vids and I’m curious to see how they do IRL.

Jess: Josh Homme.

9. Who not?

Nic: That sound engineer called Arbre from Montpellier (France), and any other dickheads like that guy.

Jess: Zaz, an (in)famous terrible French singer.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Nic: I guess this is part of the game. I wouldn’t call it « fright » but « excitement » or « adrenaline ». Everyone handles it in a different way.

Jess: I still suffer from this, but after a couple of Jack Honey shots, I’m fine.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Nic: There are so many. But if I had to mention only one, I’d say QOTSA.

Jess: Any bands from the ’70s and ’80s.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nic: This question is for Jess LOL.

Jess: Drink at my bottle of Jack, holding it like it was my cock, or even asking me my clothing size to offer me bikinis.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Nic: They deserve to die. Just like you.

Jess: They’re alcoholic deaf people.

14. What do you think of our site?
