Interviews: Big In Congo

This is a new interview with the Rock band Big In Congo from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

It was at the end of an evening. We were imagining that it would be so cool to become really big but in a faraway place. We could lead our normal life at home and be really big stars there. We chose the Congo as a far away place because Colas' (the keyboarder, singer and guitarist) girlfriend comes from there.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Because it is the music we love! We played different styles of music in different bands, before. And now we just wanted to do music which pleases ourselves.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We have known each other for a long time, since 2006: We are both teachers and we met on the train when we both went from Paris (where we lived at the time) to Rouen (where we were attending some teacher training school).

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Colas' favourite band is definitely blur. He adores everything about Damon Albarn and he even wrote his thesis about blur. My favourite bands are Joy Division, Therapy? and the Manic street preachers.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I write the lyrics about what I see around me and about what I feel on the inside: what puzzles me, what gets on my nerves, what intrigues me. I am quite shy, though. So the lyrics are often not very direct, but rather kind of hidden encoded. I don't know what inspires me to write the music, some parts of the songs just come to me when I play the guitar. And then I try to fit everything together.

6. Where was your last gig?

On new years eve, we played some songs for some friends. But we don't do a lot of gigs. We mainly focus on recording our songs the way we like them. As we are only two. It would be difficult to play them live anyway.

7. Where would you like to act?

In which club do you mean? I would like to play a gig in the limelight in Belfast. I spent a really great evening there very long ago.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Colas would surely say Blur. I would like to play a concert with Megadeth. I really would like to meet Dave Mustaine, but I think our styles don't fit. 9. Whom not? I don't know.

10. Have Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that? 

We still suffer from stage fright. Both of us. So we wouldn't be the right persons to give tips to beginners on that subject.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

When I Was a teenager, that would have been Iron Maiden and Nirvana. Then I listened to a lot of punk. In what concerns integrity, Therapy? is absolutely the band that inspired me most. And what concerns the lyrics, I have been quite inspired by the manic street preachers, Johnny Cash und by Tom Petty.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They have a good taste in music.

14. What do you think of our site?

I think it is great that you put so much information about so many bands on your side. That is quite a lot of work. It is really important to promote bands. ... and there are many great bands on your site.
