Interviews: Collapse The Sky

This is a new interview with the Metalcore band Collapse The Sky from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the artist on his FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

We were coming up with multiple names in the process of forming the band and Collapse The Sky was the only one that stuck. We opted for a powerful combination of words that would be interpretable in terms of their definition. To ‘collapse the sky’ would take an unimaginable amount of power, something that we hope to demonstrate through our music.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

The energy behind metal is immense. Growing up we were always into heavy music and other styles just didn’t seem as powerful in comparison.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

There is definitely longevity in terms of the friendships between the members, some of whom have been long-term friends since high school, and some of the friendships were formed through previous bands gigging together on the local circuit.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Lee: Slipknot

Flynn: The Ghost Inside

Luke: Metallica

Dave: Mudvayne

Karl: Sikth

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

It’s usually emotions that inspire the songs, or feelings towards things as opposed to writing about people specifically. Metal is a very emotive style so the songs are driven by emotion more than anything.

6. Where was your last gig?

It was the Bloodstock Metal To The Masses competition semi-final. We progressed through to the final which will be on June 2nd. All of these Bloodstock shows have been busy and really fun and highlight the importance of the metal community coming together.

7. Where would you like to play?

We would love the play at the UEA LCR, it’s not a stadium or anything like that, but a venue where we have all seen our favorite bands growing up. Motorhead, Trivium, Architects, Limp Bizkit, In Flames, Megadeth, they all have played there when passing through Norwich, so we would love to get up on the stage where we used to watch our heroes when we were kids.

8. Who would you like to support?

We would love to support The Ghost Inside, Wage War, or In Flames. I think we would go well on a bill with those guys, and it would be great to meet them.

9. Who not?

Coldplay

10. Have any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Well it’s definitely natural to feel nervous before a performance, and that’s ok, it shows you care. Being aware of that helps, to know it’s ok to feel nervous, and that it’s to be expected, but also know that the minute the guitars are cranked and those riffs come belting out, it all goes away.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Bands such as Thin Lizzy, Metallica, Slipknot, The Ghost Inside, Lamb of God, and Parkway Drive often feature on our listening playlists. So there is a mix there of older classic bands and some more recent modern bands.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We had one show actually where a fan asked our drummer for his samosa costume. He’s quite attached to it though so had to say no.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Amazing people, we wouldn’t be where we are without them. The shows have a really great atmosphere to them and that’s down to the fans having a party with us.

14. What do you think of our site?

Yeah, the site is cool, the layout is nice and clear, and definitely a supportive environment for up-and-coming bands.

15. Something to add?

To the website? Maybe have a random band's song playing when the site loads up. Could be a cool way for people to discover new sounds instantly.
