Interviews: The Intemperate Sons
This is a new interview with the Rock band The Intemperate Sons from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?
Keith: Several years ago, I wrote a deeply personal song and called it “Intemperate Son”. I was trying to find a word for angry that would make people look it up. I never recorded it, although we still may. Flash forward 10 years and me and my sons (Jake and Max) decide to form a band. I could think of no better title than The Intemperate Sons. Maybe we’re not exceptionally angry, but it just had a ring to it.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Keith: I’ve always connected with music that was less than happy but that told a story, even if it was painful. My writing comes from a dark place so I’ve always felt at home writing dark expressive music. All the guys feel the same way. Jake and Max, because of me, grew up listening to Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Tool, and even goth music. We all have that common bond.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Keith: Yes we did! Jake and Max are my sons and grew up with me playing and performing music. Mark and I have a history in an original "Texas groove metal" band called Natural Born Thrillers.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
For Mark, is Queensryche. Jake loves The Rolling Stones. Max and I both love Alice in Chains.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Keith: It is ALWAYS someone giving me a guitar riff or melody or me coming up with one on my own. Everyone in the band can play guitar, so there is plenty of inspiration to go around.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was in Dallas earlier this month to a packed house. It was our first gig back in Dallas since covid began. Our first gig post-covid was a few weeks before in Austin.
7. Where would you like to act?
Not sure I understand this question.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
With regards to bands, we’d like to play with, we’d love to do shows with our label mates Hu3M3n and Slaves to Humanity.
9. Who not?
We will play anywhere with anybody that has the same passion as we do.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
None of us really have stage fright. We may have nervous energy but that is the excitement of performing and not the fear. For all of us, we’ve always known that if you rehearse and play together often, there is no need to be nervous.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
If you look at our new album that is about to drop in June, I would say we’re influenced by all of the bands we listed as being our favorites and then some. Some of the music we’re writing now has a post-punk vibe to it like Joy Division but also has overtones of Rush and the Police. I think in terms of lyrics, I’m probably most inspired by Jerry Cantrell, Daxx Riggs, and even Geoff Tate.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We haven’t had too many things out of the ordinary. We’ve had requests to play some odd music that didn’t remotely go with our vibe, which caused us to pause and ask where that came from! LOL
13. What do you think of your fans?
Without them, we are nothing. Our purpose and our energy is derived from them!
14. What do you think of our site?
It looks amazing and has a ton of good information about bands.
15. Something you'd like to add?
We are about to release our full-length album “The Color Within” in June to all streaming services. We also have vinyl records and CD’s that can be bought from our website at http://www.theintemperatesons.com.
