Interviews: Virtue In Vain

This is a new interview with the Progressive  Metalcore band Virtue In Vain from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the artist on his FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

Hywel: When I started Virtue In Vain, I wanted the name to stand out and represent something we relate to and feel strongly about. In essence the idea of anti-idolism. The name portrays the idea that you shouldn’t have to look up or follow the same path as someone or something just because it has been portrayed as successful. Just because you take the path less traveled doesn’t make your view any less valid, we are all different and wealth and success have no bearing on character.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Hywel: I love metalcore. It was the genre that really solidified my love for music. The passionate lyrics and melodic riffs really made me fall in love with the genre. Since then we have written metalcore songs. We fall more on the progressive/technical side of the genre but our roots are in metalcore.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Hywel: Other than the guitarist (Emyr) who is my brother, none of us knew each other. Over time we played with each other and had conversations. In the end we just all fit together really well and work as a great team writing music.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Hywel: The Devil Wears Prada

Emyr: Sylosis

Mason: Unprocessed

Dan: Architects

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Hywel: Lyrically I write about events that have happened to myself, the band, or something we feel strongly about. Musically, it’s listening to other bands' songs. When I hear a song I am really into it just makes me want to write songs.

6. Where was your last gig?

Hywel: Newcastle in 2019. A long time ago before Covid hit us all.

7. Where would you like to perform?

Hywel: US or EU. I have always wanted to play in those areas. Meet new people and get together with other bands' friends of ours.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

Hywel: The Devil Wears Prada or Make Them Suffer. Both bands have had such an impact on our writing that I would love to play with them.

9. Whom not?

Hywel: I am not sure. I love to play with anyone really. Mixing genres as well to show different styles to new people.

10. Have any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Hywel: All the time. I always get nervous forever show, but I love that feeling as it pushes me to do better when we are on stage. Tip-wise, I would say just stay hydrated and focus on your set. You will get more comfortable and muscle memory will kick in. Then it’s all just an enjoyable experience.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Hywel: Make Them Suffer, The Devil Wears Prada, Architects, Napoleon, For the Fallen Dreams, Crystal Lake & Currents. Plus many other bands we have played with over the many years.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Hywel: Good question. I think for change for the bus. Nothing too strange sadly.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Hywel: I adore them. The support we have had from our fans over the years has been amazing and really has kept us going when we hit a wall. Thank you so much for your support.

14. What do you think of our site?

Hywel: It’s amazing, reading about so many artists in their approach to music and what they have up and coming. So easy to just get lost in reading the stories about all these musicians.

15. Something to add?

Hywel: We just want to say thank you so much for your support it means the absolute world to us. We will have plenty more to show you very soon from music to videos and everything else.
