Interviews: YUNGER

This is a new interview with the Post-Hardcore band YUNGER from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

Ryan: I and Dylan thought of songs we like to try and find a name, came across Younger by Letlive, liked the name a lot, and stuck with it.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Jeremy: Coming from a technical/death metal background, I learned that you don’t always have to shred. It’s about what the music makes you feel. It vibes with my soul. Julian - Rock music is how we grew up. Whether it was hard rock, post hardcore, grunge, shoegaze, rock, and its subgenres were a huge part of all of our formative years and something that just feels right.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We’ve all had some form of connection before the band, Ryan and Dylan had been in ARTCLS before, Julian and Jeremy had toured together in Demon In Me, and Jay was in another band that had played shows with them. The music scene in Northern California is pretty tight knit and a lot of the guys in it tend to play a show together at some point.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Jay: Nothing But Thieves

Julian: Jimmy Eat World

Ryan: Blink 182

Jeremy: Yunger

Dylan: Incubus

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Julian: I’ve been pretty inspired by everything around me in my life, whether it be the video games I’ll find myself drawn to, the records I love, or the shows I enjoy. Jeremy - Life inspires me to write!

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at Goldfield in Midtown Sacramento opening for Drug Church’s Hygiene tour.

7. Where would you like to act?

I’d love to do a west coast tour in the next few months. But ultimately, around the world.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

It’s tough to say. Sometimes there are parts in songs that make more sense to feature than others. A few bands we’d love to work with on a track are Movements, Thrice, Citizen, Saosin, and more.

9. Who not?

There are a lot of acts that have had misconduct allegations come up in the last few years and we’ll be steering very clear from that crowd.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Jeremy: To this day I still get a little nervous before playing. Just gotta remind yourself why you’re there, and give it all you got.

Julian: When I first started playing, I dealt with a bit of stage fright, just this rush of adrenaline, bright lights, and the heat all make you unsure of what to do. The best solution I’ve found is to try and put that energy back into your performance.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Jimmy Eat World, Foo Fighters, Thrice, Citizen, Explosions In The Sky, Between The Buried & Me, Balance & Composure, Circa Survive, etc.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Jeremy: “Are you and Dylan Brothers?”

Julian: I got asked to sign someone’s fanfiction story when I was in another band. Made me feel a bit uncomfortable for sure haha.
