Interviews: Bleed The Sky
This is a new interview with the Metalcore band Bleed The Sky from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the artist on his FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, plan it or came out just like that?
We were actually outside of our rehearsal studio, Gemini one afternoon in 2002. We looked up at the sky and it was red and looked like it was burning due to the reflection of the Sun on the clouds. We initially thought of the name “Burn The Sky,” but our bass player at the time, Dave Garcia brought up the name “Bleed The Sky,” and it stuck with us ever since
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
When we got started we just all loved playing and listening to metal. We grew up listening to metal giants Pantera, Sepultura, and Morbid Angel; as well as grunge bands such as Soundgarden and Pantera. We didn’t want to be labelled as any type of subgenre. Ironically, we came out onto the scene during whole the New Wave of American Heavy Metal Movement in the early 2000s; and we were labelled as a metalcore band.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Wayne and Austin met at a show at Chain Reaction in Anaheim, CA in 2002. They met through the original Bleed The Sky bass player Dave Garcia. Austin and Wayne were both friends with Dave. Wayne was in a local hardcore band at the time and it was his band’s last show. After Wayne left that band, Dave Garcia introduced Wayne to Noah Robinson, since they lived in the same apartment complex. Noah, Kyle and Austin were already jamming, and then Wayne joined the band. After Bleed The Sky started touring, we met Kevin Garcia through a mutual friend Jeremy Hall. Kevin and Jeremy were in a band from San Diego, Audkik that did a lot of touring with us. Then we met Dave Culbert in 2006 in San Antonio through his band Brotherhood. Brotherhood would play shows with Bleed The Sky when we went through Texas. Dave actually replaced Wayne on guitar, when Wayne got sick on tour in 2006. The band went on hiatus in 2009 and got back together in 2017. When the band reunited the new lineup was Kevin Garcia on guitar, Dave Culbert on bass, Wayne Miller on guitar, Noah Robinson on vocals; and of course Austin D’Amond on drums. The band did a headlining run in 2020 and brought out So This Is Suffering. Rudy Flores is the singer for So This Is Suffering. When Noah left Bleed The Sky in 2021, we recruited Rudy Flores as our new vocalist.
