Interviews: Birdeatsbaby
This is a new interview with the Dark Progressive Rock band Birdeatsbaby from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on his FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?
The name came out of a nightmare that our lead singer (Mishkin) had during her teens. It sort of just followed us after that and once we were set on the name that was that. We've been burdened with it ever since.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Which genre are you talking about? Birdeatsbaby is known best for its genre-defying songs. Try "Bad Blood" - it's a Jazz Metal Bond Opera
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
No. We all met through this band and the band is the thing that has kept us together throughout the years, like an ever-growing, constantly hungry demonic child.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Mishkin - The Devil Makes Three
Hana - Nine Inch Nails
Garry - Pink Floyd
Anna - Toto
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Each other. We're such a melting pot of vastly different influences and lives that there is enough drama and musical chattering to keep us going for centuries. We seem to have the opposite problem to writer's block - too many ideas.
6. Where was your last gig?
The Green Door Store, Brighton, our hometown.
7. Where would you like to act?
On the stage, I presume
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Martin Grech - he's an enigma like us
9. Whom not?
Ed Sheeran - he is the antithesis of the music we create
10. Have any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Yes we definitely get nervous performing - breathing techniques are essential and having a backstage area is always great for us to hide away before going on stage. You need to be able to focus and have time for yourself. Regular practice and playing with others at smaller gigs or open mics is a good tactic to get rid of the nerves.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Gojira are pretty incredible - they have their own sound going on and are completely original, they also stand up for what they believe in and not afraid to be political. We respect that.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Once a fan gave me (Mishkin) a t-shirt, asked me to wear it, then turned up at the next show a few days later and asked for it back... I don't know if he was trying to capture my "essence" or something but the t-shirt was not returned.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We absolutely love them. We call them The Flock and meet with them as often as we possibly can, especially the ones on Patreon: www.patreon.com/birdeatsbaby
14. What do you think of our site?
It rocks! Thank you for having us here.
15. Something to add?
Yes, go find us on YouTube and watch our latest video "Ribbons" - it's Shibari themed...
