Interviews: Circle Of Blood

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band, Circle Of Blood from Australia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

We were trying to think of something that wasn't already taken but still sounded aggressive and brutal. I (Dave - vocals, and guitar) was thinking of the grindcore band Circle Of Dead Children and thought the name Circle Of Blood was similar without being something my wife would roll her eyes at.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We've all been fans of metal for a long time, Chris (bass) and I actually started writing death metal songs back in 2011 but never formed a band. Peter (drums) is more into prog and djent and we've been exposing him to filthier forms of extreme metal.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

I met Peter at a gig for his old band a few months before we first started jamming, but Chris and I have known each other since about 2005 when our bands started playing shows together.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Dave - a three-way tie between Converge, Year Of No Light, and Descendents

Chris - either Sick Of It All or Vision Of Disorder

Peter - TesseracT

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

In terms of music, all sorts of things inspire our writing - seeing the amazing extreme metal bands currently playing in Melbourne inspires us to write riffs and songs that are (hopefully) just as good. Lyrically, we're inspired to sing about situations and events we're passionate about. Sometimes it involves somewhat obscure Lovecraftian or otherworldly imagery to make things interesting (like our song "Leviathan"), and other times it's very blunt and direct (like our new single "Unholy Trinity").

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was on August 15th at The Old Bar with Tumour, another awesome death metal band.

7. Where would you like to act?

Anywhere we can. Chris and I have both played in bands that have toured Australia and overseas, and Circle Of Blood being relatively new has not yet left our hometown, so anywhere interstate would be fun.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

In a dream show, Blood Incantation, Carcass and TesseracT.

9. Whom not?

Nazis and Nazi-adjacent bands. So far we have not encountered bands espousing this mindset, and we'd like to keep it that way.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Honestly, whenever I got nervous about going onstage in the past I would cover it up with aggression, the way a dog behaves aggressively when it feels threatened. I've been playing in bands for a long time now so, while I do get a little nervous now and then, it's not as much of a problem as when I was 18.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Dave - Converge because after 20+ years and 8 albums they still push themselves in new creative directions instead of just making the same album over and over. Faceless Burial for the huge level of creativity, inventiveness, and skill in their writing.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Every possible answer to this question is something I probably don't want to write about on the internet.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Excellent humans.

14. What do you think of our site?

A super cool, really good way for us to discover new music!

15. Something to add?

Keep an eye out for more gigs and new music coming real soon! Support your local death metal and hardcore scenes.
