Interviews: Frau Fleischer

This is a new interview with the Industrial Metal band Frau Fleischer from France. Check out the entire interview and give them a follow on their FACEBOOK PAGE

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

Franz: When I created this project I was searching for a new name to create a real break from my last project Schultz but who keeps the same German spirit? I have always listened to bands from Germany and a big part of my alternative culture was made by all these bands. I have decided to ask a German friend to help me to find a new name. After a few glasses of wine, Frau Fleischer was born. Nothing special about this name but I was thinking the contrast between “Frau” Miss and Fleischer “Butcher” will be a strange mix, a child of kindness and violence.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Greg: We play the genre we play because it’s a mashup of all the music styles & bands we like to listen to or the bands that make us dance. Franz and I have always got a foot in the rock/metal scene and another foot in the industrial/electronic scene so Frau Fleischer is the perfect balance of all things that went through our ears.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Greg: Yes we did! Franz & I met many moons ago when he came to Paris to play a gig with Vdrey the performer. I really enjoyed the show and we had a brief talk after the show. But we could not imagine that all these years later we would play together and I know I could not be happier as Frau Fleischer really encapsulates all the music I love.

Franz: At this moment we haven’t thought that one day we will play together and today it's incredible cause everything is perfect between Greg and me….We make music we love, the is real magic alchemy together.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Greg: We both really like a lot of different bands in many different styles. If I have to choose one, it’ll be Meshuggah.

Franz: Same things, I like too many bands depending on my daily humor….for today it will be Skynd.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Greg: The music comes from a very subconscious level and like many of us I’ve got a dark side and I have to let go of some dark feelings. Music really helps me with the struggle to live on a day-to-day basis and brings balance to my psyche. On the lyrical side, I come from the old-school punk lyrics & I like to talk about all the wrong in our societies but these days I’m able to put some glitter & lights in my lyrics, that wasn’t the case in my previous bands.

Franz: There is no real recipe, in fact, we simply try to share what we have in mind or inside us at a precise moment.

6. Where was your last gig?

Greg: It was in the beautiful city of Nice with an amazing crowd and we spent a lovely time dancing and headbanging with the audience!

Franz: Yes it was great, a great moment, with a great audience. In August we will share the stage for the first time only Greg and me. We work hard for it but it will be a great moment for sure!!!

7. Where would you like to act?

Greg: Anywhere & everywhere! The sky is not even the limit!

Franz: Exactly!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Greg: To me, it would have to be with an artist or a band who is truly outside of our musical world in order to get something very special. I am sure a song or two with Nick would give very interesting results.

Franz: Yes, somebody really outside our universe, for an unexpected collaboration.

9. Who not?

Greg: We do not want to play or share anything with bigots, narrow-minded spirits…

Franz: Non-open-minded people …go out, we don’t need you in our life!!!!!!

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Greg: I’ve always got a panic attack before any gig! I’m all chill & cool during soundcheck and stuff but the 5 minutes before any gig I start imagining all the ways the gig can go wrong. But the second I am on stage it’s only pleasure and fun! If I could give any tip to a beginner it would be to breathe deeply, to stay focused, and to not forget it’s only rock’n’roll but we like it to paraphrase Mick Jagger.

Franz: It’s the inverse of Greg for me. Always stressed during soundcheck, always stressed to haven’t got enough time to prepare a perfect show. But when I launch the first sound, I know the show starts and everything can happen… And I like it!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Greg: Meshuggah of course, Metallica who made me want to be a pro musician, Radiohead, Napalm Death, VNV Nation, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Philip Glass … the list can go on and on as I listen to a lot of different bands and artists.

Franz: Rammstein, VNV Nation, Das Ich, Pet Shop Boys, Skyd…, and more and more, I love a lot of things from different universes.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Greg: I am always surprised when a fan asks for a used pick but I’m always glad to offer one!

Franz: There has been a long time, 15 years I think, at the end of a show, a guy comes and asks me if my wife and I are ok to make an orgy… But I have never offered anything or someone to him, lol…

13. What do you think of your fans?

Greg: They are full of energy, full of enthusiasm and it is always a real joy to meet them on and off stage, they give us so much energy it’s unbelievable!

Franz: Each time we are very surprised by them….they are always crazy with unexpected reactions They are incredible…

14. What do you think of our site?

It is a great website and I would like to thank you so so much for supporting the underground the way you do it! Websites like yours are essential for the underground scene! Please keep up the good work!

15. Something to add?

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone & anyone supporting us !! The fans, the press, our wives, and Bad Dog Promotions are doing an insane job helping to push the band further & further!!
