Interviews: Survivalist
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Deathcore/Metalcore band, Survivalist from Ireland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
I (Gav) used to work in a used hardware/software shop. We had just got together and hadn't picked a band name, we were just writing. A gentleman came in one day to trade in a load of old DVDs and amongst them was a low-budget movie called 'Survivalist'. We decided to use it as a placeholder until we came up with something else but the name fit the music and the band so we ended up just sticking with it.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We want to span multiple genres within the metal. If you compare 'ROT' to any track off 'VII' it is drastically different and this is a theme we want people to adjust to moving forward.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Not as a whole, some members knew each other before the band's conception.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Some Highlights would be Pantera, Black Sabbath, While She Sleeps, Architects, Stratovarius, Periphery, Erra, Like Moths to Flames & Dream Theatre.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We have all been playing music through some channel for the majority of our lives. Being able to create and produce these songs and transfer them into a live setting is probably our biggest inspiration. Shows are our favorite place to be.
6. Where was your last gig?
Rotherham - Bridge Inn
7. Where would you like to act?
Any major festival or shows that are going to bring an army ready to go to war with us.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Artistically, anyone who would fit the track in question. If Britney fit the song we would totally be down.
9. Whom not?
Also Britney.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Everyone gets it. Whether it's the anxiety/excitement of performing, making a mistake, Letting down your bandmates, having people show up, or just general social anxiety it will always be there. However, it gets better. The more you play, The more manageable it gets and one thing to keep in mind is you're on that stage with your friends and they're all feeling the same. You're not alone.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
See question 4 lol.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
An Encore When we had played all of our material so we ended up letting the crowd choose which of our songs they wanted to hear again.
13. What do you think of your fans?
THE G.O.A.Ts. We have the most supportive people behind us and the fan base is crazy. We love you all.
14. What do you think of our site?
It's pretty dope.
15. Something to add?
Thank you for featuring us, we really appreciate any and all promotions. We are entirely self-funded, promoted, managed, and produced. Being a DIY band can be tough but having supportive fans and people such as yourselves behind us makes it easier. Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this and if you have any questions or suggestions or you're having a bad day and just needs someone to talk to, feel free to reach out via our socials or even email.
