Behind The Artworks: Pistacia - Edgy (2022)

The artwork for the EP is an ibis skull with a tree going through it. So our band name, Pistacia, is the name of a type of tree. Ancient Egyptians used the resin from these trees and poured them into skulls to prevent them from collapsing during mummification. The imagery of a skull and a tree is just relevant to our band name it will be used more in the future. The tree is actually a Pistacia tree too. We specifically went to an artist whose style best reflects us. Emily Szalkowski, @emszalk on Instagram, has a very unique art style that’s both dark and whimsical. We thought she would be the best to put a visual to “Edgy” and we were right.
