Interviews: R3VO
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal band R3VO from Germany. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it, or came out just like that?
The band name just came about, really. It was Victor´s idea, our bassist who initially founded the band. More recently, we decided to switch out the `E´ for a `3´ - it´s just more rock`n´roll.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
The genre came to us, one could say. The first ever song we played together, was "The Stranger" - which is in coincidence also the first song we put out. While it still goes into a more groove metal direction, the prog influences came on the way since then.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, briefly, but a real connection we established in the band setting.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
That´s a tough one because when we are on the road all kinds of music are played. It ranges from Gojira to Ella Fitzgerald, really. So I think none of us would like to commit ourselves to only one band we fancy.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Definitely all the different music we individually listen to. Then also the vibrant live scene here in Berlin and the city itself. It can be quite overwhelming sometimes, to be honest. And in the end, we constantly bounce off ideas each other in the rehearsal room. This writing together in a room works best for us, really.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was last weekend at Privatclub, a club here in Berlin.
7. Where would you like to act?
We would definitely like to play at some more festivals - and since we are all here in Germany, Wacken would be quite something.
8. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Not really to be honest. Of course, there is excitement and some nervousness before going on stage, but we know we will have each other´s backs out there. Plus, before every show, we give each other a good hug, that definitely helps. And on tips - I think breathing exercises to calm yourself down are a great way to get ready. Also, some physical workouts, to stretch and get pumped up. Then you just feel invincible.
9. What bands have inspired you the most?
Definitely, some of the big Prog acts, like Porcupine Tree and Tool. Otherwise Muse, Karnivool. Guitar-driven stuff.
10. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We did not really get asked so much weird stuff yet, but I can tell you what the biggest surprise of a fan was. We played in a small underground venue in Berlin a couple of times, because the owner and organizer really like what we do. And the last time we played there, he had painted our band name on one of the walls, like 2x3 meters. That was pretty mind-blowing I have to say.
11. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans are great!! I mean, they kind of keep this whole thing running. It feels great to get so much resonance and positive feedback when you put new music out and when you play live. Some peeps come to see us at every show we play - and it´s not few gigs. This is really special and we are very grateful to have such supportive people around us.
12. What do you think of our site?
You have a great thing going there! The bands you feature are really cool, and we are very glad you include us in this list!
13. Something to add?
Thank you so much, stay tuned for more exciting stuff from us in the future and now I can only wish everyone a good day!
