Interviews: Echoseven
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock/Alternative Metal/Post-Grunge band, Echoseven from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Justin: Allon came up with the band name
Allon: it’s actually an unintentional Star Wars reference- which I was told about by some of
our fans.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Justin: I've always loved metal and I just knew this was the style of music I wanted to play
Stefanie: Oddly enough I started out as a folk singer. I was introduced to Allon and he
brought up the idea of a metal project. I was slightly apprehensive, but after some time I felt
very at home in the genre.
Luke: It’s a style that I can comfortably play in, and that lets me express myself musically in
a more authentic manner.
Allon: I’ve always loved distortion and guitars. And drums lol Rock and metal music have
always resonated with me.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Justin: No I didn't know anyone from the band before it started I was introduced to allon back
in 2015/2016 and we started jamming and then we stopped playing for a couple years and
got back together and now we are what we are today
Stefanie: Allon and I briefly knew each other before the band was formed officially. We
played a mutual event a few years in a row.
Luke: I didn’t know any of the band members when I joined. I saw a paper at our local music store saying they were searching for a new bass player, so I decided to apply.
Allon: No- music is what brought all of us together.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Justin: mine would have to be Killswitch Engage
Stefanie: This question never gets any easier! Right now, I really love a band from Australia
called Dealer.
Luke: If I had to pick one, probably Azure
Allon: too many to mention lol. Inflames Killswitch, Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin- but I also
like Lights, Bjork, Tori Amos, The Killers, James Brown
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Justin: I'm gonna have to say my band inspires me
Stefanie: I take a lot of inspiration from the music I listen to - I listen to a variety of things
from metal to k-pop and I feel like this (hopefully) gives me a unique hand for songwriting.
Lyrically, much of my inspiration comes from daily life - mostly the hard parts.
Luke: I have always had the desire to create things, and now that I study music and practice
regularly, music is the best outlet for my creativity.
Allon: the countless adventures that make up my life.
6. Where was your last gig?
Justin: our last gig was in fredericton new Brunswick Canada we played with the band Within
Harms Reach and The Daily grind
Stefanie: On November 18th, we played at Broken Records Bard in Fredericton. I really
enjoy that venue.
Allon: the Broken Record Bar and Music Room in Fredriction NB.
7. Where would you like to perform?
Justin: I would love to perform at metal Montreal it would be awesome
Stefanie: A few years ago, I saw some videos of the M’era Luna festival in Europe and
since then, it’s been a dream of mine to play there.
Luke: I don’t have any specific places that I want to perform, but it would be awesome to get
to play in some bigger cities.
Allon: our goal for 2023 and beyond is to play bigger cities and venues.
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
Justin: I would love to perform with Killswitch Engage
Stefanie: I would love to perform with Lena Scissorhands of Infected Rain.
Luke: Azure and Our Oceans
Allon: anyone who will have us lol
9. Whom not?
Justin: I'm not really sure
Stefanie: Difficult to answer!
Allon: anyone who expects us to pay!
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat
that?
Justin: honestly I have not suffered from stage fright
Stefanie: My first ever performance, I was a teenager and I was so nervous I was sick.
Throughout the years of performing, I’ve learned that it’s important to think of the stage as a
second home. You can be yourself up there and if people judge you? So what? Embrace
your little quirks and don’t try to be perfect. Just try to be your best self.
Luke: The first time that I performed live I was quite nervous and was visibly trembling in
the legs. But really, playing a song in front of an audience is no different than playing a song
during band practice. And remember, everyone will make mistakes in life, and most of them
will be small enough that nobody will notice. Whatever you do, keep playing.
Allon: never stage frights but I still get nervous before every show- it’s the adrenaline. For
beginners, you just have to work through it and learn to harness that energy into your
performance. The great thing about being on stage is that you can barely see the crowd- so if
you can’t see anyone- no one’s there- so just perform.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Justin: I'm gonna have to say Lamb Of God
Stefanie: Vocally, I feel like I started to learn when I got into groups like Infected Rain and In
This Moment.
Luke: Azure, Flub, Death, Inferi
Allon: all music is inspirational in some way.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Justin: honestly nothing yet haha
Stefanie: I don’t have an answer… yet!
Allon: to be determined lol
13. What do you think of your fans?
Justin: our fans are great they give us great support and we love to have them as our fans
Stefanie: It’s honestly really cool how our music has reached people all over the world. I’ve
made some friends in the UK, for instance! Everyone who comes to our shows, fans or not,
has been gracious and amazing.
Luke: This goes without saying, but we love our fans! If not for them, we wouldn’t be able to
make any progress with our band.
Allon: they are awesome- and genuine.
14. What do you think of our site
Stefanie: I particularly like that there’s a “behind the artwork” segment in some of the posts.
I always thought this was such an interesting process.
15. Something to add?
Stefanie: Thank you for the interview! We’ve got some new music in the works and we’re
very excited for the new year.
