Interviews: Olēka
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Death Metal band, Olēka from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
The name was something that Aaron (singer, lead guitar) came up with while we were writing. Oleka
means the awareness that few moments in life are memorable, which is something that resonates with
us, as we have both struggled with feeling low or lost at times, and wondering where to go in life.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Metal has a reputation for being really hardcore, but in our experience people who love metal music
tend to be really down-to-earth and relatable, which we find really appealing. Metal music can be really
challenging technically, which keeps you on your toes and there is a lot of room for creative expression,
without judgment. Also metal sounds sick AF
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, we met in 2018 and became friends, staying in touch even though both of us moved to different cities,
and during covid, we started working on the writing for the songs which eventually became driftwood.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Aaron lamb of God and Currents
Byron too many to list, but today I will go with Currents & Bleed from within
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Many different things, but usually it comes from a place deep within, personal experience, pain, growth, etc
6. Where was your last gig?
Calgary
7. Where would you like to act?
Berlin is definitely on the bucket list, as well as Italy.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Anyone who is chill, and loves metal to the core. We are pretty open to new ideas and meeting new
people! But if we had to pick one, the guys from Heaven Shall Burn seem pretty sick, and we would be
honored to sit next to them on a bench let alone play some music or share a stage
9. Whom not?
No one comes to mind
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Oh for sure! My best advice for new musicians would be to practice until you are sure you won't make
mistakes and then know if you do, no one is gonna notice anyways. Have fun and love what you do
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Currents, Lamb of God, In Flames, bleed from within, Volbeat, Chimera.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Ha, thats for you to find out
13. What do you think of your fans?
We have had so much support and really uplifting positive reactions from our fans, We appreciate you all
so much!!
14. What do you think of our site?
Sweet!! We love how you feature new and upcoming musicians, thanks for the support.
15. Something to add?
We are so grateful for all the support coming our way, and are really excited to get out and meet
people, and make more music. Follow your dreams peeps!!
