Interviews: Steal My Hope
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal band, Steal My Hope from Finland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
I think the phrase "You can´t steal my hope" was the origin, so I just thought that Steal My Hope would be a
fitting name. Also, I like to think that hope always wins in Steal My Hope songs, so no one can´t really steal it.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Melodic metal has always been the easiest way to express me musically. Instrumental stuff is how I started
making music in the beginning. I have worked with other members and vocalists in different projects over the
years, so Steal My Hope is me returning to my roots.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Steal My Hope is a solo project so it´s just me, Janne. I think I know myself pretty well.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
There are so many great bands out there, but to name a few I always keep coming back to Sentenced,
Soilwork, Scar Symmetry, Charon. But it depends on the day, I don´t listen to metal all the time but any good
music will do, no matter what the genre is.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Music and composing are a way to relax and when I´m playing guitar I usually come up with a few new riffs.
Some of them are shit and some of them are good. The good ones might start a whole new song or become
part of an older one. There´s not any magic or something big behind it, it´s just something I like to do.
6. Where was your last gig?
I haven´t played a gig with Steal My Hope, but the last one in general was with a cover band a couple of years
ago here in Finland.
7. Where would you like to act?
I haven´t really thought about it as it´s not relevant at the moment. I´m more of a studio guy.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Maybe with a really good vocalist someday.
9. Whom not?
A shitty vocalist.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Actually, every time we did a gig with the cover band, the moment just before going to the stage feels horrible.
But after a few songs, it gets better. I did practice playing the songs a lot on my own too and not just with the
band, so that did help a little bit.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Any good music really, no matter what the band is.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Can´t think of anything.
13. What do you think of your fans?
If I can reach people who like and enjoy Steal My Hope´s music, that would be great. I´m very proud of the
albums I´ve made, so of course it feels good if someone else likes it too.
14. What do you think of our site?
It looks good and helps to spread the word about underground bands and projects, so thumbs up for that!
15. Something to add?
Thank you for your support and for this interview. Check out Steal My Hope´s new album "The Battle Within",
hope you enjoy it and keep on rocking!
