Interviews: Küntsquäd
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Deathpunk/Crust Metal band, Küntsquäd from Australia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came
out just like that?
The idea for the band name was derived from many languages and
interpretations of the word 'cunt' and has strong feminist origins.
It's best described in this article here:
https://qz.com/1045607/the-most-offensive-curse-word-in-english-has-powerful-feminist-origins.
The most offensive curse word in English has powerful feminist origins
(for a more detailed description). It also has a history in the story of
'Kunti' who is held as a figure of great importance within many Hindu
traditions and especially with worshippers of Krishna Vaishnavas. It's a
term of empowerment for women... therefore it was fitting that we used
the play on the word cunt (the unofficial Australian' slang word for
affection or disaffection ) and reclaim the word to embrace all these
things into the name. A squad of kunts hence Küntsquäd
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
It wasn't really a contrived decision.. it evolved through the various
influences we all bought into the band. Ultimately it's the kind of
genre we all listen to in its various formats and eras.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Paula and Steve have been friends for many years and also played in
another band together at one stage, but Brett knew Steve and both Brett
and Adam were friends of mutual friends. Tidy.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Paula: Sad Ex
Steve: Beatles
Brett: Iron Maiden
Adam: Rush
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Brett says alcohol .. but given Brett hasn't yet contributed to the
record we will accept that, even though all the songs were written by
Paula and one from Steve... Steve's a kunt so that inspires him so
technically Paula is inspired by Steve's kindness.
6. Where was your last gig?
Workers Club in Fitzroy, Melbourne, Australia
7. Where would you like to perform?
Anywhere there are lots of people gathered who appreciate the finer
qualities of heavy as fuck music.. so technically that would mean big
festivals and all venues. Anywhere and everywhere in the world.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Carcass and the Cavaliers, Mortician, Discharge, Maximum the Hormone..
the list would be too huge. Respect for too many to mention.
9. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for
beginners on how to beat that?
I think we all still get a bit anxious before any gig, despite the
size and number of gigs we've done. Alcohol helps .. a lot
10. What bands have inspired you the most?
We all have our different inspirations, so here is a conglomerate for
all of us: Sabbath, early Sepultura, AC/DC, Tool, Pink Floyd, Mortician, and Sadistik Exekution
11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Undies with our logo
12. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans are all kunts, and we love them
13. What do you think of our site?
It's an excellent forum to hear about current bands and their
activities and more.. the Articles are informative and it's a great
support for up-and-coming bands. Fucking Awesome!
