Interviews: Horus
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Groove Metal band, Horus from Portugal. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or did it come out just like that?
The idea of the name comes from Egyptian mythology, as Horus is the god of life and the band is to give life to our musical creativity.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We chose this musical genre because we wanted to make something modern, heavy and melodic that captures the influences of each one of us.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes. Some of us had already worked together on other projects or shared a stage at festivals here in Portugal. Only our vocalist is new to the Portuguese underground and I think it has been a pleasant surprise.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
The five of us have several influences, not being able to give a favorite band for each. I leave some that are our references, such as Metallica, Jinjer, Bullet For My Valentine, Machine Head, Gojira, Bleed from Whitin, Morbid Angel, Madball, Alice in Chains, Animals as Leaders, Dream Theater, Deftones, Currents, Of mice & Men or Bless the Fall.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Our first record, Broken Bounds, was very much inspired by our vocalist's personal experiences. We are already working on new work and we will talk more about current issues in our world.
6. Where was your last gig?
Al-Metal Fest in Faro, Algarve Portugal
7. Where would you like to act?
One day we would like to play at a big European festival like Wacken Open Air or Ressurection Fest.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We love to meet and share the stage with new bands, whether Portuguese or international, but of course, it would be a dream to share the stage with one of our references.
9. Whom not?
Nobody in particular. Music is art and sharing experiences and I think it's good to share the stage with all those who simply want to make and share music.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
No, none of that luckily. I think that if we approach the stage in the sense of fun and adrenaline rush everything goes well. The secret (in my opinion) is to have fun above all else and go on stage well-rehearsed. The rest is to enjoy.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
For me (Tiago) it was clearly Metallica, Megadeth, Soulfly, and Slipknot in my teens. Currently, I identify a lot with bands like Jinjer, BFMV, Gojira, or Monuments.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
The weirdest thing a fan asked me for was a t-shirt I was wearing at the end of a concert in 2019 I think...
13. What do you think of your fans?
Love them all.
14. What do you think of our site?
Your site is very interesting and a good way to discover new bands. We thank you for your work in this promotion and the opportunity given with this interview.
15. Something to add?
I just want to thank Jon, on behalf of Horus, once again for the interview and send a big hug from Portugal to all readers. Thank you Breathing the Core!
