Interviews About Albums: Aodon - Portraits (2023)

In this new interview, we sat down with the French Atmospheric Black Metal band AODON to ask some questions about their upcoming album "Portraits". 

1. What can you say about this new CD?

Hi, this new album, entitled Portraits, is our third one. It contains nine tracks describing the fall of nine individuals.

2. What is the meaning of the CD name?

This album depicts some aspects of human nature, so we were looking for a word to sum this up,"Portraits" was a good one. That said, the artwork of Alex Eckman Lawn shows that these portraits are a little different from those we are used to seeing.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD?

M-kha is the one who composes music, he is at the origin of Aodon and represents its very essence.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

I would probably pick Sheelagh, or Miquella, or maybe Adam, or…ok, that’s not possible for me!

5. Is there a special message in this CD? If there is what it is?

The conception of this album started from Hannah Arendt's theory on the Banality of Evil, Milgram’s experiments, and also Harald Welzer’s book "The Executors. From normal men to mass murderers". They revealed that we are all potentially capable of the worst and made light on the veil that we put on some parts of us. I have tried to adapt this observation to several evils that can gnaw at us.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

All lyrics are in French, they will be available on Bandcamp and on the CDs booklet of course.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Musically M-kha has given full rein to his instincts without restricting himself. I think that allowed this album to go further in aggressiveness as in dark emotion. I personally want to thank each person who inspired these Portraits.
