Interviews About Albums: Morto - Morto Vivo (2023)
In this new interview, we sat down with the Portuguese Death Metal band Morto to ask some questions about their latest album "Morto Vivo".
1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?
This is a double EP, the first part recorded in 2020 and the second in 2022, made of raw grinding Death Metal, from two dudes bored to death while quarantined due to the pandemic.
2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?
Since this was initially just supposed to be a one-time and done project, the first EP was just a self-titled release, "Morto". When the opportunity to play live and to record a second part and release it through Larvae Records came, we just kinda made a play on words with "Morto" meaning "Dead" and "Morto Vivo" meaning something like "Living Dead", for it to make sense and keeping it in our imagery.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?
Tiago did all the riffing, recorded it to a click, and Jordi recorded some demo drums over it, when satisfied with the arrangement/structure Tiago wrote some lyrics, and then we recorded the final version.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
Hard choice, the songs are so short none of them can quite capture the whole dynamics of the release by itself, but maybe "Vortex of Misery" would be a good one to start with.
5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?
Morto is all about rawness, gore, chaos, and everything that's rotten.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
Lyrics might not be the deepest or most important part of Morto's music, so we'll leave that for the listeners to decide.
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
All our musical references, our friends, our bands, our friend's bands, and our band's friends, all of them, in their most extreme versions, were influences in our work.
8. Something to add?
Big thanks to Breathing the Core, to Zé Pedro of Larvae Records, to Propagator PR, to João Afonso for the recording and mixing, and to Paulo Henrique Jão for the video clip footage!
