Interviews: Aisles
Hello everyone, today we have the pleasure of interviewing the talented members of Aisles, a Progressive Rock band hailing from Chile. Known for their intricate musical arrangements and powerful lyrics, this band has been making waves in the music scene. Be sure to check out their Facebook page for updates on their latest projects and upcoming shows.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
I came up with the idea and my brothers Luis and Sebastian liked it. After that, we talked to the rest of the band and
we all agreed.
I was looking for a one-syllable name and we liked the meaning: a long passage between rows of seats in a theater that leads to the “stage”
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
We just started writing music based on what we listened to at the time. We never said “let’s form a Prog Rock band”
and our influences were a lot broader than what is labeled under the name Prog. The combination of some classical
music training, new age, and rock music probably ended up sounding Prog. We did like some prog bands like Rush,
Yes, or Genesis but among many other artists and musicians. We like to think of ourselves as a prog band but in the
broad sense of the word, which is not limiting imagination at all.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, we did because the band was formed by my older brother, his school friend Rodrigo and myself. Later we
incorporated another friend from school, Alejandro, and my younger brother Sebastian. As the band grew there were
lineup changes and musicians from the scene in Chile came to be part of the band.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Juan Pablo Gaete: Queen
Germán Vergara: Yes
Daniel Concha: Pink Floyd
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Life, philosophy, books, films. Beyond Drama was written inspired by personal events. What’s happening in the world
is also a source of inspiration, human interaction, love, and the lack of love.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was opening Riverside’s show here in Chile at Teatro Caupolicán in 2022. The arena looked stunning
and we played some of the essential songs from Beyond Drama like Megalomania, Thanks to Kafka, Fast and
Disobedience
7. Where would you like to perform?
Athens
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Steven Wilson
9. Whom not?
Bad Bunny haha, but actually no one from that sort of only-industry/almost-not-human-made music. Music based on
what pleases the algorithm only is not music as an art form at least.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat
that?
Not really stage fright but at the beginning, it was hard to focus on the music because of that. You don’t have a good
time when that happens. That's why work needs to be done to overcome that feeling. Time helps, knowing your parts
really well is essential. Now I actually enjoy it very much. Minutes before a show I get into a character. A good tip is to try to become someone else and do your best to deliver a good show.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Queen, Iron Maiden, Yes, Genesis, Rush, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Pat Metheny Group
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
After a concert in Mexico, a guy asked my brother Sebastián, the singer at the time, for an autograph on his armpit. Of
course, my brother signed his armpit. He was a cool guy.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They’re amazing, the best people in the world. They have the best taste in music haha. No, but seriously they are the
ones that make this possible. I'm going to use your question to invite people to join our Patreon /AISLESPROJECT
where we have exclusive material and it's a great help to us
15. Something to add?
Remember that on April 5th we’re releasing our fifth studio album but preorder is available right now on our official
website www.aislesproject.com. I also want to invite every one of you to follow us on social
media /AISLESPROJECT and subscribe to our YouTube channel /AISLESPROJECT
