Interviews: Flavien

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Good morning,

My artist name is simply my first name “Flavien” because I am a solo and independent artist. I chose to keep my first name. Because it allows me to remain myself, and to be natural.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I decided to launch myself into this kind of folk-metal/pagan/Nordic music because I always wanted to take the spectators into a fantastic medieval universe.

This is the kind of artistic universe that inspires and influences me the most.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

My favorite bands or favorite artists are Iggy Pop, Gun's and Roses, Luc Arbogast, Wardruna

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

What inspires me to write my songs is basically what surrounds me in my daily life and where I grew up.

Like for example I have always lived in France and in the Loire Valley. In a territory where there are many castles, medieval houses, and history.

So this whole medieval period inspired and influenced me throughout my childhood, my adolescence, and now until adulthood.

All the great creators and characters of the Medieval and Renaissance period inspire me, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Hans Talhoffer, Nicolas Flamel...

It is a truly inspiring period filled with tales and legends to be exploited.

I in turn wish to transmit these accounts and legends (speaking of elves, fairies, dragons, war, alchemy, witches, etc.) to future generations. Because all this cultural heritage has been transmitted to us since these 600 /500 years and I want to pass them on to future generations so that they too can pass them on to future generations.

6. Where was your last gig?

My last performance on stage was last year at the Festival Angers Geek Fest. It's been a long time but I'm in a hurry to start again, to get back on stage.

7. Where would you like to act?

I would love to play in a place that corresponds to the style, the universe, and the influences of my Elvish songs: in a castle, in an old medieval hall, in a forest, a place steeped in history and mythology

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

I would love to record and play with Les Guns and Roses, Luc Arbogast, Denez Prigent, Lisa Gerrard, and why not Epica.

9. Whom not?

I wouldn't like to play with anything that doesn't inspire me and that doesn't please me, that is to say, anything that comes roughly from rap and RNB. All that doesn't speak to me and that don't send me emotions, and feelings.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

The stress before giving a public performance, whether on stage or playing in the street, is always present. The only difference is that over time, you manage to transform that into energy to give your maximum when you perform.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The bands that inspired me the most and made me want to make music and sing are .Iggy POP, Gun’s and Roses, The Animals, Luc Arbogast, Indochine

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

The strangest thing that a fan asked me is to come and sleep at her place (making it clear that her son wouldn't be there) except that this fan was not at all to my taste physically. The situation just got awkward, one of my friends who were present at the time was laughing when he saw me trying to get out of this situation and politely turn down this fan.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I think the fans who listen to my music have a lot of fantasy medieval references like 'The Lord of the Rings', 'Game of Thrones' etc...I think that's one of the things we have the most in common.

In terms of music, it's very varied, many people listen to folk-metal like our creations.

Part of the audience is made up of people listening to film and epic music.

Then, some songs like “Astral” and “Indil Malta” have a lot of listeners who usually listen to spiritual and relaxation music.

I really like the way our songs being sung in Elvish have this ability to unite an international audience.

It is a universal language, highlighted by fantastic music, all forming a fantastic medieval artistic project that manages to develop in the world. It was a project that makes viewers travel to another universe and another world. That's what I wanted to do with this music and with this visual content.

14. What do you think of our site?

The “Behind the Tracks” sections are very interesting, being able to learn more about the visual art of an album or single cover is a real plus!

15. Something to add?

For the final word, I would like to add that our duty as artists is to give the best of ourselves.

Even if it's a difficult job and industry, you should never give up and give up because very often our vision of things and our way of thinking can put us in the way.

So we must constantly avoid having preconceived ideas and telling ourselves that the clichés are necessarily true. You must also learn to deconstruct these ideas, to sweep away everything you hear right and left to form your own opinion and establish a strategy adapted to your project. We have to keep working, creating content, and finding the right people and the right tools to promote it.

We are going to experience a technological revolution with the arrival of artificial intelligence in the field of music. Because it is already possible to generate music with very, very low production costs, and all this will change the way consuming listeners and producers way of producing music.

See you in 5 years to see how the music industry will have changed.
