Interviews: LAMPR3A
Welcome to this interview with LAMPR3A, an instrumental progressive metal band hailing from Spain. With their intricate melodies and technical prowess, LAMPR3A has been making waves in the metal scene, both in Spain and beyond. For more updates on their music and performances, be sure to follow them on their Facebook page.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
LAMPR3A (Lamprea - Lamprey) is a marine animal and has a rather peculiar way of moving through the water. Its way of moving alludes to the different passages of our music.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We have never decided what music genre we want to play, that is, what we do comes naturally to us. It´s a mixture of all the musical genres that each member has been listening to and internalizing during our lives.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Of course, we knew each other! The Basque country is quite small and we knew each other from having shared gigs with other bands.
Also, Mikel and I knew each other because we have been uploading content to Youtube for many many years, and we kept in contact there. I also collaborated on Mikel's personal musical project called "Dark Code" doing a guitar solo back in the day.
J.I.Izaguirre was also known to be a top-notch electronics engineer.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
That´s a difficult question to answer since we have a wide variety of musical tastes, but Mikel loves “Gojira”, J.I.Izaguirre loves “The Helix Nebula” and I love Allan Holdsworth.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
The circumstance of our life is the main factor to write our music. LAMPR3A is something real.
Every note, passage, section, and song… is an intimate part of us. We are our music.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last show was before the global pandemic started. We played in Lasarte; a town in the Basque country where we shared the stage with Bellako and Legen Beltza.
7. Where would you like to act?
We would love to play wherever we feel comfortable, inside and outside our country. We would love to tour Europe, the United States, and Japan... sharing tours with nice people and bands that we admire. And if possible in a good-sounding room or space to be able to hear all the musical textures we offer.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We absolutely love Vildhjarta, Humanity´s Last Breath, Meshuggah, Car Bomb, Dying Fetus, Animals As Leaders, Archspire, Fallujah, Obsidious, Gojira…
9. Whom not?
We are not going to say the names because we don't like to create controversy, but some Spanish bands.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I suffer from it, but as we do more concerts it will diminish. The problem I have is that I´m too much of a perfectionist and I don´t enjoy them at all because I´m thinking about everything going perfectly and not missing any notes in my instrument. It is a pressure that I put on myself, and I know that it is not real at all.
Music has to be enjoyed, that is the best advice we can give you. When you enjoy it, everything goes well.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Not bands, but genres. We love metal (death metal, brutal death metal, black metal, electronic music, flamenco, jazz, fusion…
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
There were two girls who wanted to have sex with one of us at one of our concerts here in Spain. When he refused, they started insulting him and they got really angry hahahahah.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are the best! We want to thank them from the bottom of our hearts for being there. We love being able to spend time with them and have a good time.
14. What do you think of our site?
It's a great website! Your dedication to the bands is admirable. Thanks to people like you we can discover brutal bands and get to know a little more about them.
15. Something to add?
Thank you very much for your interest and for the interview. it was a pleasure to deal with you guys!
We hope life smiles on you, all the best!
